The neck alone has turned me into a "Matte for life" guy!

If you like the look of gloss but want the feel of matte just grab some 0000 steel wool and take it down. I know that may be sacrilege for some but guitar guys have been doing it for decades with very expensive intruments. I can also tell you that all matte, if played long enough, will turn to gloss eventually. If you want that matte feel back after it glosses over the steel wool needs to come out of the cupboard.

Yup, that's the bass that did it for me.

You might be able to get that with a bolt on neck, Todd would know your options or what can be done...give him a call (918) 835-6959 at the Guitar House.

I think Todd needs to start giving you some kind of commission.

I love the feel of the matte neck. But I also am sold on the lack of fingerprints on the body too.

As for taking steel wool to the necks of my USAs I don't feel I'm emotionally strong enough for that yet.

I use to do this on my Les Pauls, I don't know why I haven't done it on Jade yet

You can get schallers that will fit in your peg hole that you have now but,the screw holes on the back of the peg will not line up correctly unless you can find out where to get the ones spector uses.I have found that they are very very difficult to locate,almost as difficult as finding a 9v u.s. preamp.I have inquired several times as to where to find their tuners and everytime i was told i could get them from all parts,well all parts carries black schaller tuners,but not ones with the screw holes pointing in the right direction.I am not saying they cannot be found or you couldn't obtain this information,but my efforts to do so have been fruitless.

Just got this from PJ, appears you should call to inquire from the dealers:

"over the decades there have been two types of Schaller M4 tuners:

M4
original version
set screw faces the center of the headstock, offset placement on the side of the tuner.

M4 2000
since 2000
set screw faces down toward the neck & body.


BOTH versions are still made. stores receive both versions, randomly I hear. they do not change their example tuner pic on their site
but might show one style and have the other style in stock. sites such as allparts.com, stew-mac.com."

Hmm, interesting. I had a conversation about 6 months ago with the President of Schaller in Germany. John Hall President of RIC put us in contact I was looking for an older set of Schaller's made with the screw 90 degrees to the machine head for a 4002 I was rebuilding. He said Schaller never made them that way. After I picked myself off the ground and sent him a foto, he replied, he was not aware that Schaller ever made them like that and this design predated his taking over the company. So in short, Schaller, according to the President, does not make them 90 degrees to the machine head.

It was weird that I knew more about his company history than he did!

And lucky for me, no matte NS-2! I'm jonesing to try out a US9V with the P/J combo but the Euro keeps me stilled for the time being. Gonna re-string her up for rehearsal after work.

All parts doesn't carry the 90 degree version… neither does stewmac, although hipshot might make a version that fits, gonna have to do some measuring...
