Late, but in! I'll get an updated "family" shot soon :)

Weird.
Got a fretless Rebop neck from ebradfordrich.
Passed on the black Gotoh GB7's he had as he said the headstock would need to be reamed as they were too big, making me think the gold Schallers M4's I already had would fit.

The M4's are too loose...
but a black GB7 off the ReBop MM I just got from yeldarb69 fit it perfectly!
So...thinking ebradfordrich may have missed something, I bought a set of gold GB7's.....and they are too big (slightly)!?!

I'm a little confused here.
Anyone dealt with this?

Bumping this so it doesn't get lost amongst all of the Spector porn over the last several pages. :smug:

Like Rick, I'm at a loss with this one. Has anyone else run into different sizing amongst the Gotoh GB7s?? :eyebrow:

The 2 volumes were more common I believe, but so far there's been little to no info from the professionals as to why some were vol/vol and some were vol/blend.

Personally I have 3 of these circuits, one remains stock in an NS-2A (vol-vol), I installed another in an NS20004 I received with no electronics or pickups (vol-vol) and one I installed in a Rebop that I had to route to fit (vol-blend).

I wish they were all vol-blend, but its still a great circuit and hard to come by so I took them where I could find them regardless of knob configuration

Cool. Ya both are great sounding, I have both as well. Another thing I noticed is that all pot shafts on the 2 vol one are wider than my vol/blend one, same for you? If so, can you recommend knobs that might fit?

I would say contact Todd Cooke. I know the NS5 can be had with P/J pups and a USA 9v. The bridge? I don't know. What I feel, is that if the 34" scale, pups, and pre are what you want, the bridge is but a small part of the whole. And if you can't get a five string Badass bridge. Why let that stand in the way of all the rest. IMHO

I know there are those that can discern the sound of a Badass bridge but I question the real difference it would make.
I agree with Jeff, I have a Badass2 on my Fender P-bass which I like and I don't think it effects the sound as much as the Bartolini pickup but it does help with the string spacing and action set-up....but...there could be a variation of tone with the active pickups and 9V tone circuit due to the reduction in mass that Ho is noticing.

Outstanding! Good to hear you're very happy with your new NS-4! :D
I guess I will buy a set of Labella's to try after Christmas Holidays then. Thanks! :) Do you order your strings thru BSO?

Ya know, I have checked before on BSO, and I did again yesterday, but I see no real advantage to ordering from them vs. any other website or from Sam Ass. The price on the LaBella strings is identical at all other places.
It's cool that they will give you a discount if you tell him about being on TB. However, the typical schlub buying strings online will see no advantage to buying LaBellas from BSO.
Are his prices better on other brands?

I notice a tonal difference just from the brass spector bridge and the alloy bridge. That being said i just think they are different not better or worse. In fact im loving my badass equipped jar.

It varies. I think it's worth arranging to become a VIP member on BSO. Why not have all the options you can get? I also know that LaBella strings are a high end string. I used the Supersteps on my Fender Jazz (I used to own). For those I went to a place called Link Removed. Apparently they are located near the LaBella factory and get a special price. Check them out.

WOW, that is some great pricing! Thank's for the site Jeff...but...I'm on hold for right now until a friend lets me know how his testing goes...lol

I've always been able to get my strings cheaper via BSO. Sometimes $10-15 cheaper! Especially since I like DRs. They were also the only place I was able to get Fender flats in a 5 string set.

That's cool, what is your take on the double J's with the bridge difference....sounds like your liking them together???

well unfortunately I haven't been able to play a JJ with a brass bridge.

But I really like the JJ combo with the Tonepump and the badass. The tone is a "thinner" than the PJ setup. The sustain is still there and the tighter punch of the low end really has me leaning towards the JJ for my band. Also (and this could be from wood/pups/bridge) the JJ is a little less mid heavy than my CRFM. I can dial that in from the amp so no problem.

That being said I don't know that I notice a huge difference between the badass and a fender standard "folded metal" bridge

:smug: I only just now got the strings on. I tested the relief and it's not bad. I like a little more than you as it lets me lower the strings more and I did just that. Much better action. I'm letting the bass settle in a bit and I'll check it again.

Thing is, DR doesn't make the fiver Low Riders in heavy guage so I can't match. Although the High Beams on the fiver are working just fine. If it ain't broke... :D

Oh, good lord! That's amazing!!!
I have purchased one item from Imperial in the past. I did Kung Fu for 4 years, and I played the giant drum for the lion dance. I bought the giant drumsticks for that drum there!
I'm all over these guys for new LaBellas - great prices!
Thanks, Jeff!

Imperial Guitar is only a place to get LaBella's. I pretty much use Jason & BSO for all my strings. :D I also noticed that the last order I put in had no shipping charges. I'm also going to get my next Aguilar speaker cab from him.

I just changed the bridge on my rebop from the alloy to a black heavier bridge with Spector script on it . not sure if it is brass but the sustain is a lot better now to just get it hooked up and try it WOOOOOO
