I know stories like this really bum the owner (you) out. But, name another builder that you could actually talk to, and have it sent back for a check up. I highly doubt you could get that type of service and/or care from the company named after a car part. I'm not knocking their product, their company started the electric bass industry, but most likely, any big company is going to tell you to go to an authorized repair center. And who knows who's working on your instrument. This P-Bass will go back to the man that set It up and adjusted everything the very first time on it. There's a lot to be said of that type of builder-customer interaction.

Definitely hope it turns out great for you. And knowing Jimmy will personally give it the checkup has got to be comforting in some way.

And that's why I just placed an order for a new Forte4 with shaved neck through Todd, can't say enough about his help and patience answering all my questions , knowing what will be coming and the way they stand behind it, can't wait, gonna be a long 6 months, it'll be worth it for my first new bass.

Fender will let you send your basses to their Corona factory, if it's a custom shop model. That's really no different than sending an NS-2 to Woodstock. That said, has anyone ever sent a non-USA Spector to Woodstock & had it checked up at no charge?

I think I've heard of them taking in Euros. Plus I bought my fretless Legend neck from them. Now why would they have had that if they didn't work on Legends? Not sure but glad they had it and gave Todd a deal.

The great thing about Spector is that they are small enough to not have catch-all policies like larger manufacturers. If you contact PJ, especially with a quality/workmanship issue, he'll deal with you, rather than pointing you at their "closest service center". They deal with things on a case-by-case basis, which is a personal touch rarely seen from manufacturers of anything these days.

One of the reasons I have moved to boutique builders is not only the quality of the product far surpassing the mass builders, but also the customer service aspect. Spector shines here, as do some others.

The neck on the MM feels a little 'chunkier' than the fretless, which is just about the perfect shape for me, and I want to see if it's my imagination or if it really is bigger.

If it is, I'll contact Todd and PJ for advice on how to proceed to have it shaped to match the fretless.

ha! no doubt! Usually that's what I use, but there is just something a little 'off' compared to the other. It's peaked my curiosity enough to want to take some measurements

...I'm also not ruling out that it's the stings. It currently has a MUCH heavier gauge than I typically use, and bassstringsonline has my typical DR hi beam gauges (35-55-70-90-110) on backorder.

For what it's worth, my prior NS-4H2, seemed to have a chunkier neck than the NS-4MM I just bought. By a large margin.

And this is now coming from a Wimbish neck versus the Euro I had back then, so I know it's not my imagination.

Now it's like a batter uses a heavier bat to warm up, going from the MM to the Wimbish is like that.... I can fly on that thing after playing the MM. LOL

I can confirm this. I originally had a 2013 Euro5LX (poplar) with an extremely tight truss rod. It broke finally. PJ had offered to take in the Euro for service but it would have taken a while as it was right before NAMM. I told him where I bought it, he suggested going to the supplier (Hanser Music Group) for faster service. After receiving a bum replacement with a crack in the back, my first bass had been repaired by Jimmy and was on the way back to HMG. They were going to send it back to me until I reminded them about a problem with "output leakage" (their term for output still occurring even with vol knobs turned all the way down) from the Tone Pump. Jimmy hadn't addressed that, so they ended up sending me a new Black Cherry (my original 1st choice but it was out of stock). It has the updated bridge with intonation screws!

PJ and Mark at HMG were a joy to work with, it took a while and many emails to get it fixed, but I couldn't be happier.

The new bass still has "output leak" but its very minor compared to the first bass.

My friend sent a Euro in for a truss rod repair/replace on a bass he bought used they even over nighted it back to him.

Todd is a great guy who has provided excellent customer service to me, he loves Spector basses and will treat you right!

Exactly! The fretless is just FAST! The more I play the MM the more I get used to it/better it feels...but I'm still going to get some measurements.
I also have to remember that I've played the fretless for about an hour a day, almost everyday, since I received it. My hands are just used to it!

The cool thing is I have worked close with Todd, PJ, Jimmy, and Jo Ann...they are part of our Spector family.

The only reason why I'm sad about this is that I just had to send my bass away while I was enjoying it so much, I was still able to play it as long as I provided the ground but it now needs the excellent attention of Jimmy so he can put his concerns to rest.

Absolutely!!!! Todd is the best! He is a BIG reason why I'm able to own two of my dream basses!!

I totally forgot about harbor freight!! ...there's one just down the road from where I work too!
