Not sure what you mean by "thread 32".
Checked page 32 (nothing) and post 32 (one of mine actually).
Maybe I missed that. But to my ears the Tone Pump sounds nothing like either my Haz-Lab or Haz-Lab copies.
If it was supposed to "emulate" the Haz-Lab, why boost only (which turned out to be totally false anyway)?
Plus, for a preamp that was supposed to emulate something they were already familiar with, they sure seemed to turn a "blind ear" to it's actual performance. Especially in light of the proper info they got from the manufacturer years after it's implementation.
I've got nothing against the Tone Pump. I've got one in my 6 string NS and it's slowly winning out against the Aggie OBP-1 I have in my 4 string NS. I just don't think it's anything like the Haz-Lab/Spector 9volt circuit. They're two different animals to me.

That silverburst Euro really looks like it's made from a metal alloy - especially in the b/w photo.
Did they have IEMs at the Hard Rock or regular monitors?

we used regular monitors... not saying they didnt have the option but it wasnt anything we asked about.

ahhhh! yes, Mike also Inez did play a spector but he now plays one of those foreign knock offs without the crowns.

SPECTOR makes the TonePump at the Czech Factory. It was designed by Petr Mihalik in the Czech Republic. It uses a JFET circuit... Junction Field Effect Transistor.
PJ Rubal travelled to the Czech Factory with a Brooklyn NS-2 with the "Haz" made 9v USA SPECTOR Circuit and worked with Petr to "color" the TonePump's output to closely match the USA 9v Circuit as possible. The "Haz" circuit uses a TLO 62 style op amp (as do all the HAZ circuits).
And we (those who have watched my video) know that OP Amps often over-saturate during attack. The solid-state design of the USA 9v circuit and the extra power of the 18v circuit (opens up the headroom), the over-saturation issues are not an issue at all. Which is the brilliance of the design.
The TonePump is not made by Haz. But it was designed to SOUND like the Haz, even though they use completely different technologies to achieve the tonal outcome.
The goal of the TonePump... the purpose for designing it, was to create a 9v Active Circuit solution that used the latest technology available to give the Euro Series Basses a sound that would make them true European-production versions of the USA SPECTOR basses.

Starr was a solid SPECTOR guy. Loved his White NS-2... but also had a red and blue one. He also owned a few Euro models before his passing... R.I.P.
Inez has SPECTORs, and still does to my knowledge. He is a Warwick artist now and as part of his agreement isn't seen playing anything but Wicks... but listen to the growl of some of his studio stuff... although the Wicks are shaped in an obviously familiar manner, they are not tonally like SPECTORs. Woods, pups, circuits... they sound different.
So who knows what goes on behind studio doors. I've known of more than one or two WW Artists who will record with SPECTORs and then tour with their Wicks... Not saying that Inez does. But there have been others.
