Thanks for putting this up this morning, this is my new NS-4!

I had a friend holding a bass for me, a 6 string Fbass that I really liked, but I couldn't afford to get it back from him right now, and I didn't want him to hold it for years, so we sold it. It just sold last week. I was bummed for a couple of days, but I kept saying to my wife, it's okay, I have my Dougie (My Euro Doug Wimbish Signature), and someday I will have an American Spector.

This morning, I saw this bass on Ebay, and showed it to my wife, telling her how much I love Buckeye Burl on a bass, and this was an American Spector for a unreal price. (I am a little concerned that the price is so low, but it says it is in new condition, and they have a 10 day return policy if something is wrong).

It was then she told me she had been cutting corners a couple of places in our budgets to surprise me for my 40th Birthday in March to buy me an American Spector. She then told me she had enough saved up and that if I wanted it to go for it, that I would be saving her money in the long run by buying this now.

SO...next week my American NS-4 will be here!!!

The problem there is the local guy's strap selection doesn't really feature anything that is remotely long enough for me or I would buy a strap from him, as he does have some nice leather ones.

I think 3 would be perfect, 3 1/2 maybe, but I don't think I can do a 4 1/2 inch strap.

Ah, ok, you wear your bass on your thigh just above the knee or you are like 8 foot tall.
My advice would be to figure how short the the the straps he has are and make an extension out of a dress belt (thinner leather) with several Keyholes for the button.
This way you can attach it to the body end of the strap at different lengths and it will hang where you usually wear it it. You can try most straps on without modifying them other than running a
3/8 bolt/washer/strap/strap/washer/waxnut to add the extension.

Actually, this summer I did a surprise marriage vow renewal ceremony at my parents house, and surprised her with a big shopping trip at the Mall of America, but something else will be coming up soon...

Man, your wife rocks! Good luck with the new NS-4 and post tons of pictures. Buckeye Burl is one of my favorite finishes.

Neither of those are really true. I'm 6'2 (maybe 3) and I weigh around 350-375. Standard straps are usually 53 inchs fully adjusted. My bass sits on my gut around my waistline. I am usually comfortable wearing a 60 inch strap.

One thing....Once you get it, you have 30 days to submit a My Spector Story... no excuses like I dont have a video camera... because I will send you mine to record it.

Any way... the advice still stands and is solid as that is what I would do.
If that isn't gonna work, there are custom leathersmiths in almost every county somewhere.... that can custom fit you a nice comfy strap.

This is the strap that I'm gonna get for my Spector:

It's a 2 1/2 inch strap but it's padded, so I think that will help a lot. Levy's had a 4 1/2 inch strap but I was scared it would be too wide.

Levy's has this one in 3.5", multiple color choice, leather, up to 64" long... order the XL model -$67.00 on their site but I see them much cheaper elsewhere...

Yea, I'm going to order a Levy's strap with the XL feature. Wasn't crazy about going with leather (because it's HOT). Oh, and I didn't take offense. If I were 8 ft tall I'd probably be in the NBA and own several US Spectors.

This may sound stupid but I hate the way that strap looks. I much prefer the look of the other one that I posted.

Well, I finally found something I don't like on my legend
The control cavity screws. A minor thing, I know, but when I went to change the battery, three came out fine, 2 gave a little fight, and I ended up practically stripping the last one to get it out
It was the same putting them back in, too.
Oh well, it doesn't change my opinion that it's a great bass, but the whole thing was a bit frustrating, and I now have the beginnings of some serious blisters from the screwdriver. Dang. Anyone else have this issue, or am I just screwdriver- challenged?
Edit; well, after its amazing performance Friday night, I'm willing to let it slide The only problem is that one of the screws is still sticking out a little. It won't go in any farther.

Once apon a time they all came with threaded inserts and machine screws . They are easy to add though. First time I saw them was on a spector. I add them to every bass now. I get mine at a local shop. Stew Mac may have them. Drill the holes out, tap the inserts in and your good to go.

Not stupid... I wasn't crazy about it either.

I wish i could remember the make of the contoured ones I had before... one was all leather one was a cloth mixed with leather, and one was like wetsuit material covered leather. All had the 'S' curve contour and were super comfortable....

He says the NS- 2A neck has a bow that may be correctable by a luthier - not sure but that's never good. He has had it for 20 years, one would think he would KNOW if it was correctable by now. No?

I live close enough to Floyd that I could check it out — it may well be no more than a slack truss rod. But I don't have an acoustic guitar to trade... And I already have a rare black NS2-A.
