I know, and I love it! I'd love to get a number (i've been lurking this site for a while now) but i'm too intimidated by you guys' fancy stuff! I ordered 2/3 of my dream rig and will take a picture with Rebop as soon as it comes in. Maybe then i'll be worthy?

You guys may or may not know this but SPECTOR does not pay it's endorsed artists for their endorsements. And SPECTOR never GIVES guitars away. Even to guys like Doug Wimbish. Artists pay for their guitars just like the rest of us.

WW does pay some artists and has no issues giving guitars away. Over the years when you see a guy who has been playing SPECTORs all the sudden start playing WW its typically because they are getting either free basses or some cash or both and they've found themselves in a place where that's more appealing than playing a superior instrument. I don't knock them for it. It is what it is and it's the nature of the music industry. Many manufacturers will give guitars away all day to musicians with record contracts. SPECTOR never has.

Andy had a hard choice to make but the guy has a wife and house and responsibilities and he felt he needed to explore an offer by WW to do clinics and represent them from an educational standpoint.

Which, for as long as I've known Andy, has been his dream. He has always said he wanted to travel the world and share his love of music and teach others and inspire them to pick up a bass or guitar.

And Andy is one heck of a musician. He's a great guitarist, awesome bassist, songwriter, composer... he's the perfect guy to reach out to people and do just that because he doesn't have a formal educational background... he's a regular guy and his gift is being able to talk about music in a way that people without a music background can understand it.

SPECTOR's focus is making great guitars... a full-blown educational outreach program isn't really in the cards right now.

Andy made what I hope will be a wildly successful career move and he'll be able to live his dream. I could care less that it's for WW because if you know Andy, it's not really about the brand you play... it's that you play and you enjoy doing it.

So everyone please be nice to Andy. You can love the musician and not the brand of bass they play.

Ah, I see. I didn't realize companies paid artists for playing their stuff. I didn't mean any disrespect, I just figured that the guy was well-off enough to be able to stick with Spector and still go after his dream. It's a shame, though. He's crazy good.

I'm totally with you on the faux lambo analogy. I can't imagine him feeling totally satisfied with what he's playing after having the real deal.

It's not the people (it seems like we bassists are a rather friendly bunch), it's the gear! You guys have reallllly nice stuff, but I suppose i'll suck it up and post here eventually. Even more reason to collect, eh?

Yeah, We LOVE our Spector basses and we all have our preferences on gear... but, it's like I tell my motorcycle riding friends... I don't care what you ride as long as you're in the wind and having fun...
I don't care what your play or play through, as long as your playing and having fun....

well except if you're playing a WarWick... but only because they ripped of Stuart and Ned's design, but ya know... "don't hate the player... hate the thief" er something like that....:D

The way I understood it, the design was purchased, not ripped off. However it happened though, it amuses me to see grown men hating on one brand in favour of the other - they're both extremely good instruments, and entirely different from each other.

But, it doesn't really matter to me - I love my Warwick and they'll have to prize it from my cold dead hands, but I also love Spectors and know that when my new NS-2A arrives, it's gonna be awesome.

Hopefully I haven't made myself unwelcome here by saying this, but just speaking my mind.

Leave now!! Just kidding.... There was a link posted earlier that explained it better, but the ns design was stolen and the Spector sued Warwick. When Kramer bought Spector they didn't care about the lawsuit, Warwick then bought the rights to make the bass..... They have since changed it enough that Spector can't go after them any longer.... Something like that anyways.

That being said I've played other models of warwicks and they are nice, but there is just something special about Spector.. The basses (from entry level to wicked custom) the company and the community, that make this brand a keeper... So much so that I won't even look at other basses and I'm selling my yamaha and fender basses because ,well my spectors have ruined them for me.... :-)

Ah I see. Yeah, that was pretty poo of them then. I do think that Warwick are shocking profiteers, but I still love my Corvette.

I guess this is the best place to ask - what is it that makes Spectors so special? I mean, they look absolutely awesome, sound great, but what is it specifically that makes folks love them so much?

I've never played one, but am expecting an NS-2A to be delivered in the next few weeks.

What makes SPECTORS so special...Stuart the man! Years of hand craftsmanship...tweaking the design making it more comfortable, sound better, using the right woods, the right balance, working with guitar electronics companies to bring out the right sound...AND an AWESOME customer service/support Dept. !!!! PLUS...from Stuart on down to everyone that works with Stuart & PJ, they CARE! They LISTEN! AND it shows in the end product(s). :D
You tell us when after your new NS-2A arrive and after the first time you play her...as soon you pick up your NS-2A you'll feel the difference and you know and understand and get it. Cheers!

ok guys I need some opinions...

I am going to upgrade the pups in my ns-2a... here are my options (at least in my head)

EMG PJ set (active)
EMG PJ-X (active)
EMG PJHZ (passive)

I have noticed the active EMGs come with 2 vol and 1 tone pots... would it be worth it just to get a 2nd tone pot? Can I get just the pups?

I am stuck between getting a tonepump pre (love it in my performer DLX) the tonepump jr. or the the emg BT system.... I'll probably try the pups with the haz copy in my bass now first.

So what have you guys used/liked/disliked... I have the HZs and tonepump in my other spector and love the results and it would be nice to have a similiar volume output between the 2 basses for shows.
