I'm beginning to understand why 90% of all guitards I talk to or play with aren't huge on Spectors-
why?
you can actually hear them in the mix! WatTF is that bass doing in my mix?? Turn it down, newb!

Chris is one of the good guys over there.Mr. Chris Fitzgerald, the forum admin for the DB side, not only liked my thread but he went in and removed all the negative stuff so that a "real discussion" of Miles and his use of the upright can take place.

That's killer-cool. Anyone who wants to talk about Mile's bass come on over and give a shout. Looks like the woodpeckers have been told to go back in their holes.

I just wanted to share a quick recording experience with Brownie vs. other basses-
Actual comment from my engineer:
"Dude let's just use the Stingray. The Spector sounds too big and frankly just dominates the guitars altogether."
PROBLEM??
I've noticed the same thing in a live setting. My old EBMM Sterling sounded decent in the live mix, but didn't really add any character or stand out. My Spector, on the other hand, really jumps out and throws the lows....

Yep. We were in rehearsal last night and you just couldn't really make out the SR5. I know it was "there" but unless the guitar stopped or something, it kinda got blanketed over. I'm still new to it but I totally get the stigma about these now.

I had a stingray and while it was a good bass I always felt like it was lost in the mix. Granted, I know it could be turned up, but...well it just doesn't come close to a Spector!

the sound guy at my church loves when I play my spectors..... it cuts through adds nice color..... but our sound guy is a bassist, and his assistant keeps turning me up cause his son plays bass...

Nah it's not really a "turned up" thing, as I was plenty loud, it's just the magic of frequencies thing. Especially detuned, the Spector just brings the thunder.
The SR5 gives plenty of "cut", but there's no "body" to it, if that makes sense. And since my guitarists aren't really bass heavy in their down, our set felt anemic w/out that low-mids bump I get w/ the NS5.

its nice not to have to turn up the volume wicked high to be heard.....

Hmm...I picked the NS-2A...go figure!Below are the results from my recent Spector Sound Comparison Survey.
Here is the info on each of the basses. Obviously this isnt an exact comparison since I they all had different strings.
But keep in mind that the strings that are currently on each bass are the strings that I felt
sounded best on that bass after trying just about every Stainless Steel String brand on the market.
All strings are Stainless Steel 45-65-85-105
(I have a Nickel Allergy thats why I only use Stainless Steel)
Brands listed below.
(14 out of 20 votes) #1 Euro 4LX (TonePump) w/Sadowsky Blue Label Stainless Steel Strings
(2 out of 20 votes)#2 NS-2A (EMG BT) w/Black Diamond Stainless Steel Strings
(4 out of 20 votes)#3 NS-2JAR (EMG BT) w/Dunlop Stainless Steel Strings
Keep in mind that the Sadowsky Blue Labels are naturally much brighter then the Black Diamonds.
The Dunlops fall right in between.
Also, here are some of the comments that were left in question #2

This could start something new at SpectorCentral along with My Spector Story we can add "Obsessive Spector Mood Syndrome" or OSMS. Such videos can include taking over UPS trucks that contain your instruments for faster delivery, going to guitar shops and cleaning Spectors....

Unless I am missing something,
It does appear to be a NS-2004.
Korean Made between 1998-2002 List price of $995.00, worth around $400-$450 now used.
