All things being equal, given what we know about string tension between two given points, it is physically impossible not to be better given the desired result.

Nobody said there aren't good 34's out there. 35" or more is just going to be better period with all things being equal for the crowd that wants that desired result provided above from their instrument. Assuming they are physically adept enough to handle the larger scale.
If you're not going for this side of the tone/performance equation, you're right, 35" or more is probably not "needed". Probably not even 34". But if you are, it is undeniably "better" all things being equal.

Most upright players will tell that full length (4/4) basses, all things being equal, tend to sound the best. But the physical playing issue creeps in so that is why most tend to use 3/4 basses instead. That's where the point of diminishing returns requires a trade off, not because the 3/4 sounds just as good.

No concert pianist, given the choice between otherwise identical concert grands (insert manufacturer), chooses the shorter model.

No concert harp player, all things being equal, thinks the smaller models sound as good. We could go on........

My wife is going to make a video of me running along side the UPS truck, me throwing the driver out of the way of my new bass, running to the house, ripping the box open, "BIG" welcome hug of the Forte 4 after I gently lift her out of her new case, and of course playing Lucy Liu for the first time! Lol :D :bassist:

Yep. He had a Big Al 5 SSS before and had to sell it. He decided to only keep one Spector cause that's all he needed but then a guy offered to sell him a Big Al 5 SSS and he was more attached then he realized.

So during tax time next year, I may get myself a new bass. I have been considering a Spector SpectorCore 5. I have a question about the SpectorCore, though, for those of you who have experience with the instrument.

The piezo has an active circuit, but the magnetic humbucker in the middle does not. If your battery dies, will the entire bass go dead (series) or just the piezo (parallel)?

Mr. Chris Fitzgerald, the forum admin for the DB side, not only liked my thread but he went in and removed all the negative stuff so that a "real discussion" of Miles and his use of the upright can take place.

How cool is that? I've been "un-fuqua'd"

That's killer-cool. Anyone who wants to talk about Mile's bass come on over and give a shout. Looks like the woodpeckers have been told to go back in their holes. :hyper:

Excellent! You got a response from Roy Vogt also. I have his Teach Me Bass Guitar instructional DVD's that he released and he is a great teacher and player.

This could start something new at SpectorCentral along with My Spector Story we can add "Obsessive Spector Mood Syndrome" or OSMS. Such videos can include taking over UPS trucks that contain your instruments for faster delivery, going to guitar shops and cleaning Spectors....:eyebrow:

Ah...Too early in the AM for me:D

Chris was one of the only cool guys over there. I got a lot of info from him when I used to hang out over there

I have the 4. If the battery goes, you only lose the piezo.
