Got my Euro today!!! It's definitely going to take some getting used to. My Jazz feels like home, but the Spector is SOOO resonant and even through my guitar combo amp, it has very gnarly tone. It makes my Jazz sound like the strings are muted or something...

Can anyone suggest a setup starting point for me?? I use 50-105 ga strings, and play mostly rock and metal, both fingers and pick. Just a ball park figure on how much neck relief, string height, pickup height, etc...

Also, where is a good place to pick up a hard case on the cheap...Doesn't have to be anything really special, just something better than this gig bag....

And of course, the pron!!

Saweet blue! Very nice flame maple!
Congrats!! For $58.00 locking TDK case at Musicians Friend.

Just to clarify:
In my earlier post, I was not speaking to their sound at all. Every Spector I have tried (or owned) sounded a little different, regardless of model or series.

I was speaking more to the overall build quality in general, not the tone neccessarilly. I think the jury is still out on tone when comparing solid wings vs. sandwiched. I know I just don't like the look of it as they've taken one of the most beautiful body designs ever and ruined the asthetic lines of it with the hippie sandwich look. Once again, I am not anti-hippie sandwich. It just doesn't work with the NS body shape IMHO.

Phat...where does the term "Hippie-Sandwich" shape comes from??? I too like the aesthetics of the one piece wings but as long as its not/hardly noticeable its wont bother me and I'm all about progression.
I bow down to your 20+ years of SPECTOR ownership and playing though! Wow! I could only imagine what you have seen and experienced with SPECTOR in that time frame! Kudos my friend!!!

Truly a gorgeous instrument!

Congrats on the Euro, she's a beauty! I hope to be getting my Rebop sometime this week. As for a case, here's an inexpensive one I bought on eBay.

Musician's Gear Deluxe Bass Case | eBay

50 bucks with free shipping. That's less than you'd pay for some high end gig bags.

Hippie-sandwich was coined by someone way back in the 70's when refering to Alembic and similar basses that used many wood laminates. Since many of the guys at Alembic (and their customers) were considered "Hippies", that's pretty much where the term came from. It has nothing to do with the actual body shape. Just the use of (horizontal, body laying flat) laminates. Usually of different woods of varying color.

That looks like a fresh candy apple that I want to take a big bite!!!
Well, the work was finally finished, but not without a bit of drama. At first, they just slapped my Tone Pump and associated pots back in, ignoring the EMG instructions to use 25k pots. After a bit of discussion, they pulled the 100k pots and used the correct value. Oddly, they added a second battery: one for the pups and one for the pre. Completely unnecessary, but it works just fine. The work is neat an clean, so I guess I'm happy.

It sounds great. It's still got quite a hot output (thanks to the tone pump) but the tone is a bit smoother than the HZs. It's got great growl.
Awesome!
Alright guys,
For anyone that remembers my post a while back, my Euro 5LX-TW came in on Sunday (purchased from TB'er adam on bass). Would've posted pictures sooner but i've literally been playing on it every chance i've gotten. I LOVE this bass, it's incredibly versatile--i've made it sound like 5 different basses so far. I love the tonepump (my rebop doesn't have one) and the snarl that it adds to everything. My first experience with a 5'er and it's been great. I love the neckthru and the sandwich, for that matter.

Pron:
Beautiful bass!!!

Well I finally got these pics off my old camera. Here is the family minus the NS-2A and NS-2000B;

That green NS-2 is sick looking!!! Was that a finish from SPECTOR or a refinish? It seems a bit darker than the other greens that i have seen from Spector

It's an original finish. I bought it used in '98 and it was pristine....it's got a lot of shows on it now.
I actually sold a 'holy grail' white US NS-2 to buy it....

I love the color because it pretty much looks black until the stage lights (or sun) hit it.

Big this. I think it's kinda cool that certain Spector stains change over time. Brownie actually started out as a black stain like you'd see on the Forte's and other similar finishes but ended up in the dark chocolate finish you see her in today. :) I asked PJ once if they could duplicate it as-is to like an NS-2 or something and he said it would take a lot of work and $$ as it just happened to age that way b/c of how they were made during the SSD era. :bassist:

It's actually the same color as the day I bought it. I have some old pics around somewhere.....it never was that much brighter green they did later....

It's incredible for sure. I definitely prefer that darker green. I had an NS5CRFM in that bright almost line green for a while and it was just too much!

Agreed! Maybe we should petition to get it back?

I emailed a pic to PJ. It's a little bit unique I think because everything says that if it's a '97 it should be SSD and an NS-4, but it's not either....so it must be a transitional one....??

Hey everyone,

I started working on my band's 2nd album already (i know the 1st still isn't out yet....it will be probably this month for sure!!!) I can't help it....i'm a writing and recording fiend! Just thought i would share this new track i recorded the other day. How is my SPECTOR tone on this one?

I need to get a SPECTOR guitar, so i can be completely sold out to them!!!! I haven't played one, but i'm sure they sound great!!!!

Hope you guys enjoy it/like it!!!!
