Spector Club - Part 17

I had a practice today and we did some rough recording on Garage Band. Now I'm hooked on the recording process and really excited for the future of the band. Although I did do something stupid. I brought my amp and Spector but I forgot the power chord. So I had to record through one of the guitarists Roland mini cube guitar amp so I didnt have the desired sound. Does anyone else have stories oh where they made a dumb mistake music wise, band wise, etc etc that they can laugh about now?

Yeah, I've got a bunch of them. That's why I have a spare EVERYTHING in my gig bag.

So through out the course of the day, I went around talking to folks and checking out their gear. I already have my main gigging bass that I'm very happy with so even though I had some cash, I wasn't really in a spending mood.

I went about five hours without even trying any other basses let alone buying anything. As I'm getting ready to leave, I see against the wall, this blue Spector.

Now I'm intrigued. In playing bass for over twenty years, I've never had the chance to try a Spector. It's been one bass on my short list. Now looking at it, it has a few strikes against it. It's a five string with a 35" scale length (I play 34" four string basses). But I decided to give it a try.

I plug it into my rig (Mesa Walkabout and Berg AE112/AE210 cabs) and start playing. The tone blew me away. It was awesome. Very modern, clean and bright. Probably not what I'd use for my large band gigs but for duo gigs and solo projects, I don't think I've heard better tone.

I really, really, really wanted to walk out of there with cash in my pocket. Instead, I left with a Spector in a case. I really don't know much about Spectors. I know this a NS-5XL and is USA made. That's about it. I restrung it last night low E to high C. I'll use it the next few weeks at practices and around the house to see if it's a keeper or not. For right now, I'm really psyched to have this bass.

Congrats!!! :hyper: Ooooooo...i love that blue! yep...made the big mistake and tried a REALLY great one and see what happened?!?!:eyebrow: Now you'll be SPECTOR for life! :D Great story! Don't let your guitards get jealous because now you'll be cutting thru the mix BIG time and they'll talk you into selling it! :ninja:

I remember that bass from before! It was a topic of discussion a while back, because of the jack being on top. Beautiful color!

Lol :O Yes! Today...I decided to take my Ampeg B-15T for my morning gig...upon setup I noticed that there wasn't an amp/cab cord! :eek: then I remembered it still was attached to my PR-410HLF @home. :ninja: I usually pack an extra but between selling basses and swapping gear around it wasn't with me. :bawling:
So I scarfed up a spare instrument cord and it all worked fine.

With using Garage Band for recording did you just use the MacBook built in mic or what? I too use MacBooks and I've been thinking about using Garage Band to make recordings. I've used it to edit our bands videos. I know it's an amazing program though. It's almost like having Record Pro or whatever that program is called LimaGuy uses. :confused:

Hey everyone, I posted a while back about a Spector Performer Deluxe 5 I bought thinking it was a Legend. Well, I decided to keep the bass and I love it! Feels great and sounds great now that I've figured out what to do with the EQ (the EMG SSDs have a LOT of mids). Looking to buy a Tonepump for it and I might upgrade the pickups too if I can afford it.

Anyway, here's the bass :hyper: (sorry for the crappy cell phone pic):

My guitar player forgot his effects processor once and had to drive 50 mi one way to get it.... and got back just in time for the show..

A few months ago I went to a gig and right as I went onstage I realized that I had forgotten my strap!!!!!! Luckily my singer/guitar player had an extra...... I took his Dunlop style locks off and electrical taped it on my bass and rocked out!!!

I thought they all sounded great! lol ;)

I was honestly suprised how good the euro with the tonepump was. The forte is still just that much sweeter though, like butter!

Hey she's pretty! I like the Chrome bridge and tuners much better than black on that bass. Nice Spector dude!

she's a beaut! I put a tonepump and emg-HZs in my performer dlx 4. Keep an eye out, I got mine from a spector member here and it was a great deal. And be careful because you WILL be buying more Spectors.

I bought my first one : August 18th Performer DLX 4

Second one: September 24th - Red NS-2A (Sammick)

Third one: November 6th - Blue NS-2A

Seriously I'm ruined for any other bass.... I'm thinking about getting a Spector tattoo.... a Spector NS-2 headstock crossing a Gibson Les Paul Headstock.... its gonna be sick!!
