The NS-1 (not on the price list as an active model but Stuart has been known to make one on special order from time-to-time, has a single P pup.

The NS-2 can have the P/J or J/J pup config.

The NS-4 comes with DC humbuckers but you can install CS or TW if you want (with the TW you have to use a different circuit).

The NS-4 models have sometimes been modified on special order with things like a single MM humbucker or an MM with a J. or two MMs or a humbucker and a J.

The NS-4P has a Piezo bridge and that really offers a ton of additional tonal range.

You can get about any configuration you want... a SPECTOR for every occasion. That's what I'm working on in my collection. I have the fretless (P/J) the NS-2 P/J the 35" scale BEAD Euro with humbuckers (TW) and the NS-4 with DC humbuckers. I'm building a J/J NS-2 next and then a fretless NS-4 with the Piezo bridge option...

A sound for every occasion. :-)

Here is a recent family photo.....

I'm getting different tones from my NS-2As and I'm loving it. The blue one with the alembic pups is a lot hotter and crisper. My Red one has more of a smooth sound and some growl when I turn up the treble a bit....... When the pots get in a TonePump goes in the Red one.. I'm wicked wxcited to hear the difference.

I tried hooking up a standard jack on my new purchase and was unsuccessful, so its back to the front spot for now. the Alembics use a different jack with more than 3 points to solder onto...

I'm still loving it tho!!!

My wife's going to hate me...I TOLD her already that in Dec. I'll be putting an order in for a USA 5 string. Her response was,"huhWhat?! Already? You haven't even got your Forte 4 yet and you want another?!" She shakes her pretty little head. Lol Yeh we SPECTOR guys are nuts for more SPECTORS. She's a great lady.

I didn't mean for myself...I meant back when you guys were looking for a NS-2A and Peledog sold his black NS-2A...you and Grendle were having a throw down...I said to just wait and LimaGuy would be selling one of his to finance another USA.

I think i may be good for a wile..... a black ns2A will always be on the list though :hiding:

I will probably be on the hunt though for a emg 35J and maybe even a trim pot tonepump for the euro!

That NS-1 with the P pickups about halfway between the bridge and the end of the fingerboard must sound sweet! That's a perfect location for a sound that's not too boomy and not too bright. I'd love to hear that configuration.

EDIT: Specifically, I'm talking about the amber NS-1 in your "sound for every occasion" picture, not the one in your message above. That bass looks to have the pickups closer to the fingerboard, like an NS-2.

Yeah unfortunately I have no idea where that bass is. I've never seen it. I inherited a bunch of photos from the previous SPECTOR webmaster when I took over the site and that one was in there.
As was the NS-2J WCR and the NS-4P... So I know they can exist but it's pretty rare that one gets ordered.

I agree with you, btw. If you look at the NS-1, the vintage models you'll see that's where Stuart placed the single pup (or the humbucker in the case of the original NS-1 prototype).

Mike's bass does look to have the p-pup in the standard position (neck) that it would if it had the J at the bridge. But with Mike there's no telling. He has very strong ideas about what he likes to hear and why and he's experimented a lot with his sound through the years.

This is an NS-1 that some moron (sorry!) routed a J into so they could try and pass it off as
one of the first NS-2 models. But the NS-2 has never had that six-sided route for the P pup
and the p and j pups are too close together. Someone took a part of history and destroyed it.
Disgusting.

Your family is looking good..... how is the neck comparison on the 2 versions of the NS-2As?

Sell some more of your non-Spector gear and be the new proud owner of the NS-2JAR ;) :hiding:

Well the samick is a little beefier, but its barely noticeable. The biggest difference is the curve in the body. The Samick curve isn't as pronounced, but still way more comfy to play than any other non-spector :)
