Spector Club (Part 2)

About a month, which according to Harris is about the norm - around two weeks for the multiple coats of epoxy to be laid down and curing time in-between, and then two full weeks for the entire fretboard to cure and harden completely. I also live relatively close (Akron OH to Vestal, NY is a stone's throw shipping-wise) so it got to the shop and back to me quickly.

It's certainly not "cheap" ($360 for a 5-string bolt-on bass w/ setup, although you can lessen this by shipping only the neck + $40 upcharge for a 24 fret instrument + shipping) but besides the absolute quality that Harris puts into his epoxy work, he did a great deal of work that I consider "major" setup work for a fretless - removing, lowering, and recutting the nut and well as shimming the neck for the best possible setup for "growl" and "mwah". If you're looking for the "modern" glassy fretless tone, I highly recommend his work. :D

hi spector club!

i've had a couple of spectors in the past...one was an NS-2A with bart pickups, and the other was an NS-2JA reissure. i am looking to get back into Spectors, but was hoping you guys could help me out with a few things:

i don't think i know what the "spector sound" is. my NS-2A had barts in it, and from what i see EMG is typical of all spectors. my NS-2JA had EMG jazz pickups in it, and i'm told it sounds vastly different than the typical P/J variety. does anyone know of any good soundclips, youtube videos, or records that have the typical NS2 PJ sound? just want to get an idea before i purchase anything.

also, how do the NS-2A's stack up against the USA NS2s? does it have a similar feel and sound? i've never had the privilege of playing an NS2...

IMO, the first set of clips on this site nail the Spector sound. I don't know if these were recorded with a PJ setup or on a 5-string with dual humbuckers though. Maybe someone else here can comment.

Sounds like a familiar platform. Replace bass lingo with some, ummm, not bass lingo. Perks for the middle class eh? Looks like I'll have to offload my USA Spectors.
