the one with the zebrawood top!

1)It's available in 2 different finish: high gloss and natural oil
DO YOU HAVE ANY PREFERENCE?

2) Are you happy with the stock electronic?

3) i think of maybe replacing the preamp by an Aguilar or a Glockenklang...

Hey, Francois -

The "Zeebop" is a great bass... enjoy it!

1) IMO, the oil finish gives the bass a slightly classier look. But the downside is it's more prone to dings/scratches...

2) EMG-HZ's, yes. Tone Pump pre, not as much. Sounds decent but a VERY hot pre (all boost)...

3) Any of those would be nice (a Glock pre would be pretty frickin' sweet in there, I'd imagine)!). Lots of folks have swapped for the BQC sysytem with good results, too...

i have rebop 5 zebrano with oil finish.

the oil finish on this spector doesnt schratch easilly

you can order spector rebop zebrano in oil finish,emg dc pups and emg bts elecronic ( emg dc - 60 EUROS,Emg bts - 50 EUROS) and they can paint the neck joint so you will have no maple colour betwean neck and pickups but zebrano brown.
You just tell him in what country u live ,who is distributor for spector in your country and in which shop you will buy it and the bass will be in this shop in notime hehehe

I'm looking for a set of BLACK Schaller M4 2000's (with the "J" housing). These are the tuning machines on all the Euro Spectors (I'm not sure about the other ones..USA, etc.). I've looked EVERYWHERE for them and can not find a set to save my life. I'll trade a set of brand new gold ones (from my new Euro) or a set of standard black Schaller M4's that I had bought by mistake. Of course I'll pay cash straight up as well. If anyone can help me out, pleae PM me. Thanks all!

They look like Gotoh tuners.... You can find them on best bass gear and allparts...For next to nothing..

Thanks. I've actually been in close contact with PJ about them (they didnt have any in stock) and he has helped me out a great deal (suggestions, company websites, etc.) but I'm still having an issue locating them.

does (or did) spector make a 5 string that has the PJ setup? if not, how different is the tone of the hum pups verses the PJ pups?

reason i'm asking... my dream bass would be a white spector 5 string with PJ pups - from a purely aesthetic point of view. and if i found one, i would seriously consider getting it.

They have never done a PJ on a 5-string (that I know of). I think you are limited to one or two soapbars. However, if it's the tone of the PJ's you are after, you could probably replace the EMG DC's with a 40P5 and a 40J. They won't look the same, but they will probably get closer to the tone of a PJ 4-string.

FWIW, I actually prefer the tone of the dual DC's on a 5-string. I find they are a lot more smooth and punchy than the PJ's.

I have a Gloss Finish 4-string and prefer it due to the protection and lack of upkeep an oil/wax-based finish requires, but if someone were to offer me a "ZeBop" 5-string in Oil I'd hardly turn it down because of the finish! I don't it matters all that much and comes down to your personal preference.

I don't "hate" the TonePump nearly as much as a good amount of owners do (and you'd be getting the newer "TonePump Jr." in which you can turn down the overall gain via an Internal Trimpot... which is the vast source of complaints, that it's far too "hot" a preamp) but I do plan on upgrading all of my Spectors ("ZeBop" DLX EX 4-string, ReBop DLX FM 5-string fretted and fretless) to Aguilar OBP-3SK/PPs, mainly for having onboard control of my midrange which I prefer.

I'd suggest getting the bass and playing it for a while before making any decision. The boost-only TonePump Jr. is basically the same as an Aguilar OBP-1, which was originally the ReBop's preamp until Spector came out with their TonePump.

I'm sure Spector would do so for a USA-build, but the cost-vs.-quality of one compared to a Euro (which many of us believe isn't worth the extra 3-4K) in which, as mentioned, you can get P and J-pickups in Soapbar housings that are drop-in replacements for the Euro's pups in EMGs as well as other manufactures makes for a hard argument for the USA unless you're pretty independently wealthy.
