$500 - I don't know if I'd pull the trigger. (yet...but my will power is fading, help!)

I wouldn't mind any of them - but I still need a 5er - and seeing those on eBay gives me really bad gas. He also has a Tune 5er.

And...a Brooklyn NS-2. :( Yeah, in my dreams eh? LOL

Unless they've appreciated in recent years, unless it's got an actual (original or current) Spector case with it, $500 shipped is absolute top dollar I'd pay.

The two I've owned, one was $400 immaculate with the case, the other was $250 excellent without.

A nice blue version (I've never seen one in that color) recently went (eBay) for the $500 B.I.N., but that was with the original (excellent shape) case.

I'm holding out on buying those primarily because the lack of case, but the dark stain one is definitely interesting.
(also its the only one I can tell for sure it has the original spector pickups)

That sellers items for sale list is a killer. So much high quality stuff, and some things you really dont see often... like an Ovation Magnum!

This thread is killing me. Beautiful basses for sure. Anybody have links to some sound clips? I'm not totally happy with my current bass. The sound in my head is a really hugh but tight bottom. You know, the kind of bottom you FEEL. A real pants flapper. Growly mids and sparkly top end.

The "Spector" or "EMG Select" are essentially the same pups and relatively equivalent to EMG-Hz's. The "Spector" or "EMG Select" rubbed off of these real easy. I'm guessing thats the case with these. If someone actually changed them, they probably updated them.

Hello, you lucky bunch, you. I need serious GAS relief in the form of a Spector bass. I played a ReBop 5 in a Sam Ash yesterday and fell absolutely head-over-heels in love with it. I have to have one - I've never instantly gravitated to any sound quite like that. Still, I noticed that the TonePump is boost-only. I liked the range of sound that I got out of the EMG-Hz pickups, which are the same ones I have in my current bass, but that one has a 3-band boost/cut preamp that I'm a bit hesitant to abandon. Has anyone else had issues going to the 2-band?

Also, I wanted to know which pickup configuration would best suit me. I have played with those EMG-Hz soapbars in all of my previous basses and haven't really found anything with the P/J configuration that suited me, but hearing what I have with those NS models, I have to at least feel for myself. How do the sounds compare (same preamp, different pickup configurations)? Which one has less harshness to it, comparatively? Also, my price range is probably $1k-$1500... is a Euro neck-thry model or even a well-used NS just a far-off dream? How considerable is the quality difference between the ReBop and the honest-to-God NS-2? I'd be happy grabbing the ReBop I played for $1100, unless I could get a little more bang for my buck.

It really depends. The Euro's come extremely close to the sound of the USAs. Most can barely tell the difference. Save the difference wing/body wood and construction, the basses are almost identical.

The necks are made of the same wood and to the same specs as the USAs. So there's no real difference in feel. The biggest difference is in the pickups, I dont think there's much difference in the electronics either.

For the price, if you can find a used USA you're cool with go for it if it feels right. If not, you wont be disappointed with a Euro in any way.

Remember, any electronics can be switched out. If you feel that the Euro is lacking something, drop another 150$-300$ and get a new pre amp and you'll be in business.

OK. The following tracks, both available at NIN.com, were recorded by yours-truly on several different Spectors. The track "A Drowning" has my Euro4LX and a very subtle 2nd bass track using my Fretless NS-2A.
All of the guitar tracks were recorded using the ARC6-B Prototype. That guitar has wicked range.
I mixed the drum tracks in Pro-Tools. The only thing original to these songs are the voice tracks of Mariqueen Reznor.
The track "The Space In Between" was recorded on the Euro4LX. I dropped the tuning to "D"... which was required to keep my tracks tuned to Mariqueen's voice. The ARC6 was also tuned in drop-D.

It's one of the little things I do to keep from going insane.

I have a tremendous amount of creative and professional respect for Trent Reznor.

He is being proactive in seeking new business models for musicians who could/would never fit into the mainstream music industry.

It also helps that I really love his music.

So being able to take his master tracks and add my own touch to the compositions is both fun and an honor... since I can upload them to NIN.com for thousands of NIN fans across the world to listen to.

It has been a very positive experience thus far.
