You can just barely see on the bottom of this one that the strap button is dead center. Not the original offset.

Since you will be almost to B E A D tuning, what gauge strings will you be using as the nut slots will be your issue if using heavier gauge strings?

If you are going to use larger guage strings, it's better to let PJ know so they can set the nut for you at the factory. I just replaced the nut on my Euro and it was a pain. Luckily my Luthier, Tracy Longo, was kind enough to make the measurements and belt sand the bottom down until it was the correct height.
And you are more than welcome to come by, hang out and we'll get some awesome photos. I spoke with PJ and my NS-4 is going to be ready in the next little bit, so I'll have it for you to check out.
And you'll dig my fretless. A very good friend of mine who is the bassist for the Johnny Cash tribute band "Big River", who BTW is endorsed by Johnny's daughter, came by to drop off his vintage Fender Mustang and Dan Electro for me to get photos of yesterday. He'd never seen my Spectors before. He'd never played a Spector before either.
He couldn't put my fretless down. Typically he's a double-bass guy. When he plays electric it's usually short scale. But he loved my Spectors. And ironically, thought the neck on the NS-2JA-R was his favorite. It's my favorite.
Yeah bro, we'll have to schedule time for that. It'd be a good time.
So I'm sure this has been asked a ton of times in the past threads, but what does it take to custom order a Euro? Based on what I'm experiencing with my Euro 5LX I'm pretty sure I'm going to want a 6LX in the next year or so. It seems like most dealers I've seen are only carrying the amber or natural stain. I'd love to get a blue one of maybe even matte black.
I'm also thinking about submitting for an artist endorsement but I've been waiting for an album to be completed before I do so. I"m hoping to be part of another higher profile prog metal band soon and if that happens I expect that would help.

Are you dealing with a SPECTOR dealer? Any authorized SPECTOR dealer can assist you with a Special Order. There is a deposit required for Special Order guitars usually... Discuss that with your dealer.

I'll hit up PJ early next week about it since I'm waiting to get some info to him. Only issue is that I really don't know why gauge other then a .110 for the low C.
I like the neck on mine a lot, too. How different will a US-made NS-2 or Forte-4 be from an NS-2JA-R?
Although I agree with everything JPS said, I think you'll be OK with a .110, .090, .070, .050 or similar gauge. That's not much bigger than a standard gauged set.
It's a good question. One I can't answer because my exposure to the USA models hasn't been enough for me to make any lasting/valuable impressions. Once my NS-4 arrives I'll be able to tell you.
As far as the different with my other two Neck-Thru NS-Bodied Spectors (Euro4LX and NS-2A), there's a lot of difference... mainly in the way the neck feels as you get closer to the body. The NS-2JA-R is wider (wider finger board) and thinner (front to back). It feels slightly thinner (front to back) down the entire neck. Which is the appeal of the USA necks and the Ian Hill Euro Neck. And because of the badass bridge, the string spacing is wider coming out of the bridge.
It's strange really... I just like that neck's feel. And the sound is very different, so it's a cool Spector to have. But I love the low growl of my Euro4LX and my NS-2A (set up with the same Active EMG P/Js and TonePump).
I'm really looking forward to having my own top-of-the-line USA model to play around with and really learn the differences so I can speak more intelligently about it.
In most cases, just depends on the string manufacturer.
Next time Johnny pokes his head in he can tell you that on his new 5-string his chosen strings are double wrapped at the ends, instead of tapering... and he had to file the bridge slot on his new bass wider.
The spec on that bridge is that the "B" string slot is .130 Which should handle any B string. But not so. The width of his B string at the anchor point was .150 due to the double wrapping.
So Chris, just check your strings of choice to make sure you don't need a factory adjustment. If your .110 strings are tapered at the ends it should be OK. But if they are double wrapped, the nut slot and bridge slots might be too small.
Johnny was pretty sick about having to saw on his new bass bridge with a file.
I currently have Spector Strings on my NS-2JA-R... which are sort of bright and work well with the J/J config. I have SIT mediums on my Euro4LX and they are great sounding. D'Addario Chrome Flats on the Fretless. The Spector Strings are tapered and really nice. I want to try a 5-string set on a 5-string neck-thru to see how they really sound. I may go back to nothing but Spector Strings. That's what'll be loaded on my NS-4 when I get it.
I have a Rebop Euro 5 with D'Addario Chrome Flats that fit perfectly, the B string is 130. I ordered a set of Spector SS and was so disappointed that they weren't FWs! Sent them back and ordered some GHS precision SS FW, which I love on my Legend 4 classic.
If the Spector bridge is narrower than the Badass it should be a faster neck. When will you have your NS-4?
It was delivered back to the factory from the guy who does the high-gloss clear-coats (those are not done at the NY Workshop, thus the extra cost when opting for a high-gloss finish) on Tuesday.
So any day Master Guru Jimmy Eppard will be putting her electronics in and then she'll get shipped out. I expect to have her before the end of next week.
