JP, that NS-4 is one of the handful of Spector basses I wish to own some day... or at least a similar one.

I'm going to jump on the EMG-35DC for mine. I might have found a set for $90.

One thing about those who are a fan of the plastic knobs... what to do when a concentric is needed? 3 Plastic and a mismatched concentric?

Not a fan of those either. I'll go with individual pots whenever possible. None of my setups have ever actually required a concentric.

I agree with separate pots when possible... Impossible with my setup as I have 4 knobs with the OBP-3 pre. 1-volume, 2-pup_fader, 3-push/pull mid cut/boost, 4-concentric treble and bass.

i've added a switch to my Rex5. its an active/passive switch... i HATE stacked knobs and my two volume knobs are push/pull for coil taps.. so i needed to drill a hole for an active/passive switch.

It's tough as there is not a lot of extra room for it in the Spector cavity.

This was the only real logical place I could fit these mini toggles (especially with two 9 volts and the Aggie pre in there also) when I installed these TW's.
I didn't want the push pull knobs:

You wouldn't be able to see much as the two 9volts are side by side the flat way just under the cover, blocking the view to most everything else in the cavity.
Even taking the batteries out, the clip would be in the way.

My Euro 5LX has 4 stacked knobs, one of them being a push/pull hahahaha

Affirmative. You sold it to Bobunit who in turn sold it to me (as I understand it). I thought Bob did the knobs, my bad Yeah, if you have a set of the plastiques then I'd rock the swap.

On a side note, having nothing to do with knobs, I'm about to get a pair of Haz 18v pres for my CR and my NS2A. Trembling with excitement

The gold knobs just ain't my thing. I like the plastic knobs for the marks on them and I really don't need to add any weight to my five string monsters.

Oh and the pres.... LUCKY!

I've got a set of EMG 35DC pickups coming from Pete Skjold. I couldn't pass up $90 for the set! My Spector is going to sound even better.

If anyone is going to be needing any EMG HZ pickups, I'll have some for sale soon for dirt cheap.

The Korean bolt-on necks and set-necks are thinner, more streamlined than the Euro AND USA neck-thru models... unless you are talking about an Ian Hill model. Stuart builds the Neck-Thru models to last. Think about it... something goes wrong with a bolt-on neck you can replace it. But the heart of a neck-thru guitar is the neck. If it fails... the guitar is useless. So Stuart has always made the necks of the neck-thru models a little thicker.

JP, are you saying then that the thin-necked Ian Hill model is not as sturdy or long lasting as the other Spector neck thrus? I thought that neck was graphite reinforced? I hope that although it is thinner, that the bass was designed to last me a while ... at least longer than the perceived wait time needed to custom order one in a "lefty" for me

Same here about the knobs. I like to see my EQ/volume plus the CR is heavy enough, lol. Me and Thundar have a lil sum'n in the works to correct that

And regarding the pres. I was a little torn between selling both of my NS2As and wait for a used amber NS4CRFM to come along or just sell the black NS2A to fund the pres. I chose the latter since I still really dig my white NS2A and I need a C tuned 4 string for a new band coming out soon plus I like the idea of having "unity tone" between my Spectors so the HAZ move is a step in the right direction with the final step being an EMG 35P and 40J for the CR. The saga continues

Why would you want two mismatched (size) pups? Is it a 4 string? Both should be 35's. 5 string, 40's.

Not at all. My 22 year old Kramer NS-2A isn't graphite reinforced and shows no signs of warping. And Rock Maple is very, very rigid. That 1977 NS-1 I looked at a couple of months ago still had a perfect neck.

Stuart builds these guitars to last and thus the thicker the neck wood, traditionaly the less likely it is to warp. But that's never really been an issue with any Spector Neck-thru. I've never seen or heard of one who's neck warped over time.

They are not.

Ian liked thinner necked guitars and traditionally Spectors are a little thicker necked. That's why his model is offered. To give you a different neck profile. You've got nothing to worry about. I've seen 20 year old Spectors which have been abused and beat to death nearly that still have perfect necks, play great and sound amazing.

I know have three Spector basses, I have a legend in slate grey, a 5 string custom in trans blue and yesterday I picked up a 4 string black cherry custom. I adore these basses.
