I use my fingers and have a very hard attack as well (I like to drag every bit of tone out of the bass it has), so that's a good point.

If only I had an infinite supply of money, I could just custom order one! :(

I think that's why my next Spector will probably be a custom NS-2 w/ a J/J configuration. Those EMGs plus the Haz preamp has gotta be a just sick combination.

You are correct sir! I have an '84 NS2-JA that they copied for the reissues and the JJ/Hazlab is great! :hyper:

Hey Guys,
So you may have seen my other thread about the new Euro 4LX I picked up. Well I have to say the thing is really growing on me. This morning I was warming up to "The Mission" by Queensryche. (Eddie Jackson had a huge influence on my playing and tone in the late 80's and early 90's). Now, I had been playing with both pickups wide open but for that tune I decide to turn the J pickup down by about half. WOWSA! Now that is a tasty tone! Through my GK rig it sounds fantastic. I'm still a little on the fence but I don't know, the bass plays great. Came out of the box with a great setup the neck was a little too flat so I loosened the truss rod a bit and now the action is nice and low without any buzz although when I dig in I think the strings are hitting the last fret near the body. Spector has fixed everything that bugged me about some of the older Euros'. i.e. Gain control on the Tonepump which I have turned down to about 30-40% and mine even came with brass threaded inserts for the control/battery cover. I would still like to see a quick change battery box a la Musicman but I feel much better not worrying about the wood screws stripping out. Who knows? Sorry to ramble, and yes that was my Euro that was listed in the classifieds, I deleted the post yesterday. maybe there is hope for me!

The concept of getting lessons from the guy from Godsmack is ridiculous, as is the claim of being the "first" such thing to happen. I'll give Jean Baudin or Adam Nitti my money, not that rich hack. I know Spector endorses him, and he sells a lot of albums, but that doesn't mean he's worth studying under. How about a Spector artist with some talent, like Doug Wimbish, Dan Briggs, or Arif from PTH?

THe fact that you post this, just makes you self-pwnt more than you know. :o :facepalm:

Robbie is way, way more accomplished than what he does in his rock band. Pretty much like every other bass player alive (for the most part). His DVD is very good and is hardly limited to just learning some basic Godsmack lines.

Plus he's awesome and funny and knows what he's talking about. I mean we aren't talking about Mark Hoppus here or something... :o

I'm not saying he's a novice, but his talent wouldn't be enough to draw students if it wasn't for the fame from that awful band he's in. And what does it matter if he's better than that if it isn't reflected in his music? You could have all the chops in the world, but if your creative output is Nickleback with a heavy metal facade, why should anyone care? It's not what you can do, it's what you actually accomplish. Why waste my time on some sellout when I can learn from someone who actually cares about the music beyond it being a vehicle for money and groupies? There are many more talented players (and educators) out there than Robbie, and in comparison to them, skype (etc) lessons from him are a waste of time and money.

Most music that gets put out is garbage. It's a fact. It's not like classical stations or big band stations or classic rock stations play most of what was produced back then, because most of it was crap. Some of it was even extremely popular, but it was still crap. And today, we still have a ton of people making crap, because this: Dunning ...of course, they might be fully aware, and just trying to be successful in the short-term instead of creating something that will matter in the future. So, sure, in 1969 the Archies sold the most singles with "Sugar, Sugar" but today that song is laughably bad. People listen to Zeppelin, The Beatles, Hendrix, etc. Artists who lived up to that title instead of delivering a product designed to sell to a particular demographic.

Making assumptions about each others character isn't a productive way to have a discussion. I'm sick of people defaulting to rhetoric instead of defending their points. You accuse me of posturing while you do nothing but casually dismiss me as though my opinion couldn't possibly be valid? I might as well be talking to a wall.

I'm 25 and I have a degree in music. You're still just flapping your mouth (or rather flailing your fingers, I guess) and making baseless assumptions. Your apathy and laziness shouldn't be a surprise, given your musical inclinations. I'm done here unless you can elevate yourself above "nuh uh, I'M RIGHT."

For a lot of people "what you can do" is the vehicle that gives them the means to work towards their accomplishments. Congratulations to you on being at a point in your musical development where someone like Robbie has nothing to teach you. I'm sure there are bass players who aren't as accomplished as you who could benefit from Robbies knowledge and experience (as limited as that may be).

Oh ... and I have a BA with a major in music :)
