I'd also love to see a full-length picture of your Spector to see how the Willis Tuners affect the "look" of a Spector, so if you get a chance to do so I'd very much appreciate it. And if anyone has insight into the Willis Tuners (I once heard Gary originally found the heads for under a $1 each at a hardware store) and how to find some for less than the $200 that Ibanez charges, I'm all ears... err, eyes, as I'd love to outfit my 3 Spectors with them as well.

the pickup is a TW, the back is finished just like the rest of the body and that was ordered that way. the tuners were bought from Renos Music in indiana talk to Scott he got them from ibanez

I will try to take a full length photo this weekend the other positive of the tuners it is way lighter so less headstock dive wich is not to much of a prob with this bass

This bass is for sale to fund a MTD us. but I am hoping if I can sell my Grendel or some more of my old pa gear this one will stay

I've had two of the Korean NS-2As. One had the EMG upgrade, but I forget if it had and EMG pre or just the stock controls that come with the pickups. It was punchy and sounded like a Spector should. Then I got a white NS-2A just like yours but with Basslines Quarter Pounders with the STC active preamp. It wasn't quite the hi-fi bright Spector sound, but it had BALLS. It was a different beast and I kinda liked it. After a miserable experience and disappointment with Basslines in a Warwick Vette Proline, I hated SDs. But, that NS-2A with the Basslines made me a fan again.

I should however point out that I did not have the chance to try an NS-2A with the stock Spector/Kramer pickups, so I can't say if it would be a big difference or an improvement at all.

I really wish Q-Tuner made a split P p/up. I'd love to hear the naturally punchy nature of Spectors, especially an all-maple one, coupled with the harmonic capabilities I've been hearing about with the Q-Tuners.

Exactly what you already mentioned. Get the EMG P/Js and keep the stock preamp. Your ears and everyone else within listening distance will thank you ;) Nice NS-2A by the way. I'd love a white one to go with my black one.

Spector is without a doubt the nicest neck on the market IMHO. I've been playing a long time and have had many different basses, but there's nothing that compares. Thanks Stuart & PJ, you all build the best basses, and provide a level of customer service that others will be measured by for years to come.

So, I just ran into a problem. My Spector Euro4LX is getting a new finish. I am switching to black hardware. However, it turns out that the black Schaller M4's I bought have the mounting screws positioned "inward towards the middle of the headstock". However, the ones that were on the bass had these poitning "towards the body". PJ at Spector confirmed that they have been making them both ways now for some years. Mine were from Bass Parts Resources. I've checked with Allparts and Harris Teller, but they were all pointing "in towards the headstock middle". Anyone had this issue and found the others elsewhere?

Upgrade to active EMGs and don't ditch that preamp. They're not made anymore and it's just as much a part of the Spector sound than anything else.

Oh man, did I ever have that issue when trying to go from Gold to Black hardware as the beginning of the year. I wish I could offer you some suggestions, but I could never find the right Schaller (black) heads to make it work. :bawl:
I tried everywhere (stewmac, musicians friend, etc.). I even contacted Schaller, they were very helpful, although I still couldn't find the right model tuning machines in the US.
I wish you all the luck in the world that you get better results.
BTW....PJ at Spector was VERY HELPFUL!!!! :hyper:
They just didn't have any black machines in stock (I asked to buy from them).

Thanks guys for the helpful info. Yes, PJ said this has been an issue for quite some time. I would have contacted Schaller but I didn't since they were in Germany.

In those pics, I believe based on the image name that the second ones are actually Gotoh's. Anyone know if they are a direct fit for the Schallers? Same with those Hipshot Ultralites.

We just refinished the bass in an awesome tobacco sunburst, so I don't want to drill new holes and have open holes next to it. If I would have realized, I would have filled the old ones and redrilled first. :(
