One more question to see if anyone knows. Am I right in the following:
1. The old style Schallers turned towards the inside of the headstock for the screw.
2. The new style (around 2000 I think PJ said) is the one pointed towards the body for the screw.
They still seem to make both under the same model #.
It just seems odd b/c everyone has what I am referring to as the "old" style. I'm wondering if I have it backwards.

Thanks guys for the helpful info. Yes, PJ said this has been an issue for quite some time. I would have contacted Schaller but I didn't since they were in Germany.
In those pics, I believe based on the image name that the second ones are actually Gotoh's. Anyone know if they are a direct fit for the Schallers? Same with those Hipshot Ultralites.
We just refinished the bass in an awesome tobacco sunburst, so I don't want to drill new holes and have open holes next to it. If I would have realized, I would have filled the old ones and redrilled first.
I don't believe the Gotoh is a direct fit replacement. I believe the bushing and tuner in general are a smaller diameter than the Schaller.
I would email Bill at Hipshot [email protected] or call 800-262-5630. He was real helpful with my detuner issues on my Spector.
Btw, the finish looks cool.

Hey. I just thought I would share this with you that have Gotohs on their Spectors (US models mostly). If you plan on or have installed a detuner on your Spector, you will notice that the tuning post is significantly shorter than the rest. This is a result of Hipshot retrofitting the detuner plate to the existing Gotoh tuner. Although it looks kinda funky with the shorter post, the folks at Hipshot say it works just fine. However, for those of you like me that just have to have the post the same height as the rest, you can ship your detuner to Hipshot and they will replace the post for $35.00 + shipping. They are quick too! I shipped mine and in a couple of days they called to tell me it was done and was being shipped back. Pretty cool. I will post a pic of the newly installed tuner soon.

I thought it would be more practical on a 4 than 5, but I found that I like to set it to tune from D to B. It gives me some pretty cool options for chording, position, etc.
Has anybody seen this yet? Very nice!!

Just received my 30th Anniversary Spector bass today. As usual, the crew did an incredible job on it!!!! I took a quick picture of it tonight when I got home. Can't wait to plug it in. This is serial #003.

I've never seen a bass that had more inlay than fingerboard wood. That's amazing.

Still, my fav is the purple 20th anniv one, although it'd be "perfect"
if it had the Spector logo vs the SSD.
Yeah, I wish either of my purple 20th Anniversary basses had the Spector logo on them but both were made right before Stuart was able to use the Spector name again.
Actually there were only 3 20th Anniversary basses made with the Spector logo on them. I was lucky enough to get one of them and I know Stuart's has the Spector logo and I'm not sure where the 3rd one is.

In a word- none. You cannot describe how awesome this ax is, especially for rock tone.

Yeah man it's pretty freaking nice!
It's got a little were here and there, but none on the face or back really to speak of.
It was a studio bass for a long time, which was rented out for albums and stuff so that was a lot of it I'm sure.

yeah I'm still trying to verify some of it's history, but the guy I bought it from bought it from a studio in Florida, who actually still have the bass up on their website for rental! So I go with it.
