Spector Club Pt. 3 (Insert Clever Title Here)

My wife got me a 'pre-owned' Spectorcore for Christmas. I have been using that almost exclusively at my weekly church service.

The balance is good; it is semi-hollow (upper side), so not neck-heavy, and not too weighty, either.

I did change out the EMG-HZ for an SGD ND35 after a couple months, and have been pleased with the result - broad and clear. The Fishman piezo bridge is active and can be quite bright, like all piezos. I have gone to flats, and am liking the overall timbre I am hearing through my Trace 715X.

I'm not sure about the balance, it's been a while since I last played the Spectorcore. I'll try to play it a bit again next weekend.

I like the shape, comfortable as my other Spectors. But it somehow felt or sounded a bit plastic, whereas my other fretless really feels and sounds all wood. My Spectorcore misses a lot of the warmth that I find a fretless should have.

Well, after trying a U.S. bolt-on while on vacation in Phoenix, I began gassing for one... This one is on its way home to me. :D

Where did you get that Euro with the poplar top? I didn't even know they made those. That's truly a beautiful bass, if I've ever seen one.

I also have another question. How come my bridge has a matte finish, while others are shiny? It's still brass, you can tell, but the whole finish is matte. I bought it used, so there's a possibility it's not stock, but it looks stock to me.

It is stock. I have a couple of older US Spectors and a Euro all of which have a matte/cast finish look to them. You can buy a new bridge from Spector for about $150.

Question for all Spector upgraders, particularly NS-2A w/EMG and active preamp owners: What are you all using for pots? The top is so thick on my bass that the CTS pots don't work. I know where to get long shaft 25K vol pots, but I need two 50K long shaft linear taper pots for the Bart EQ.
