I wish they still made the Super Long in a 6-string set in Nickel. They still make 6string SLs in Steel though.

Although I don't use their SL 6 string set, I do order the XL170SL sets and the matching nickel high C in a .035 and SL low B in a .125 .
I just ordered these a few months ago from Just Strings and the pre packaged SL nickel 6 sets were still listed.
Where did you hear this?

I'm sure someone could shrink wrap a film like the foto flames finish just like guys like Ritter constantly amaze me with finishes.. however I would like to see it done.

Check again. They have the EXL170-6 set but not the SL. I just double-checked. I realize I can buy the 5-string SL set and the high C separate, but I'd rather not.

I buy the 4 string sets with the C and B separate just because I don't like the gauges they use for those in the pre packaged sets.

While we're talking about the string lengths, I got a set of DR Lo-Riders for my Euro 5XL. Since DR doesn't seem to have different string lengths for sale, and I've seen others here mention using DR for their Spectors, can I assume DR's are OK on length for a 35" scale? They seem fine to me.

I've been using D'Addario XL's on all my other 34" scale basses so I'm guessing if I ever wanted to try them on the Spector that's a case where I'd need to seek out the longer scale strings.

DUDE! A Spector is a Spector and that's one DARN nice looking bass you've got there!

Not a thing wrong with it. The Legends are very nice. When you look at other basses in the same price range... You've chosen wisely.

So remember the 2nd Rule of the Spector Club... "Thou Shalt Love Thy Own Spector"...

Which leads into the 3rd Rule... "Brag On Thy Spector With Vigor And Passion"

And DARNNIT you made me break the 4th Rule... "Never Talk About Spector Club."

I have two Legends brother, they still get a lot of playing time. Nothing wrong with them!
Be patient and one day a higher end Spector could be yours, but youre not loosing anything on the Legends.

You can spend a lot less money upgrading the electronics (and hardware if you wish) and get just about as good a sound as the higher end models. That's what Ive been doing with my babies.

I had a Legend 5 for about a year while I was fresh outta college and had limited funds! Played great and sounded very nice live and to tape w/ no mods. For the price range, it IMO can't be beat!

I'm wanting to try get a brass bridge for the Rebop to add weight to it so it doesn't dive when playing stood up (I'm a skinny lad as those previous pics show). Does anyone know how I'd go about in making the US bridge fit as it's slightly too big for the Euro according to PJ.

It far and away is my least fave bridge to work on, and I think my custom NS5H2 has a Hipshot bridge similar or exact to what was on my MTD 535, and I'm curious as to if this would be an ok swap for my '85 NS2? The only thing I'm worried about a little is the bridge is countersunk (it seems by looking at it anyway) into the body, whereas something like a BadAss just sits on top.

Thoughts?

Your NS5H2 should be coming with a Hipshot A bridge designed for Spector. You may want to contact Hipshot about a possible replacement for your NS2. Just a word of caution: I'm guessing that bridge hasn't been disturbed since 1985. Be careful when you remove it or you may find that some paint decides to tag along with it.

Nice thanks for the heads up. It's a main player of mine and I'd for sure keep the original bridge if/when I ever went insane and moved this piece, but something a tad more friendly for day to day use would be useful.

Meatbag? I love it. I got called a "Spector fanboy living out some proxy butthurt victim complex" by an angry Warwick Streamer player this morning. But of course I also totally hijacked a WW thread in the process.

The issues with the bridge is two fold. You can find plenty of bridges that are heavier and would have the proper spacing. The Hipshot Type A is one (also used on USA Bolt-ons). The issue is the routed out recess the bridge fits into. Most aftermarket bridges are designed to sit flush on the surface of the bass.

The USA bridges, while heavier, are too large and most likely won't weigh enough to offset your neck dive issue.

I'd take your guitar to a luthier and see about having them punch some small holes in the back side (where the back strap lock is) and they can insert lead rods into it to give you the balance you are looking for. If done right, when they clear-finish back over the tiny hole(s) they drill, you won't even see it.

It will add weight to what is already a pretty heavy guitar. But that's going to be the less damaging. Mess up a bridge retro on a Spector and you've got an exensive paper-weight... door stopper... firewood... you get the picture.

The counter-sink issue is a major problem. There's a guy here in the town where I live that took a Spector Legend and tried to shave the body down to make it look like a curved NS. He tried to install some other sort of bridge. He tried to fill the routed out space, and do a bunch of crazy stuff. I never actually saw the guitar first-hand, but since he was trying to sell it heard about it through the local grape-vine. A friend of mine looked at it and said the guitar was totalled. Ruined. I think he eventually trashed the entire thing. One mistake with something like that and your guitar is toast.

My recommendation is either play it the way it is and be patient for the one with the features you want to come available or take it to a certified luthier. Which will cost you a small fortune, probably more than the guitar is worth. So either way to get what you want it's going to cost you.

I've got $1100 sunk into a NS-2A, but it's now completely restored, with upgraded everything (active EMGs, new tone control) and it's been converted to a fretless. I'll never get rid of it. And I didn't have to spend twice that to order a Euro fretless... and I didn't take the risk of destroying a much more valuable guitar in the defret process. So that cost made sense to me.

Lastly, the issues with the Spector bridge being a pain to work on is mainly due to the lack of intonation screws. Which has been fixed. They are about to start making the Spector bridges (USA and Euro at least) with real intonation screws! The USA models are already available on the Spector store website.

How good are you with tools? From the specs on the website it looks like you would need to remove some material from the length (approx. .05"). A local machine shop may be able to assist you.
