I would agree that it is a silly thing for people to get upset with complete strangers over something as trivial as owning a certain brand of guitar or disliking another. That being said, on a couple of forums here on TB when someone has spoken of the history between WW and Spector incorrectly I've have taken the time to politely educate them (once or twice).
I have absolutely been flamed for stating facts by members of your forum. Or perhaps not member, but member here on TB who claim to be WW owners/players. I never start the fights other than to politely say... "Yeah... it didn't happen like that... you can go ... here... here... or here... to learn about what did." And in several instances I've been verbally attacked.
Recently on one of the WW forums someone called me a "A Spector fanboy living out some proxy butthurt syndrome"... It doesn't exactly have that hate-free, lovey-dovey feel about it. Would you agree? I personally found it to be quite creative and funny. I appreciated the thought that the poster put into it; he's my kind of guy. And I told him so. He's actually a very nice guy, very smart. I've met many, many nice people while discussing our positions on this or that. In agreement or not. And if I offend someone by accident I am the first to stand up and apologize.
So that being said, if my attempt at humor (because the post was supposed to funny, not inflaming) was offensive to you, I am sincerely sorry.
I've never said that WW makes anything but nice guitars. I've pointed out that some of their designs are not the most original but I know that some of their high-end basses are exactly what a high-end bass should be. I used the "flavors of ice cream" analogy, you know... "some you love others your don't and it just a personal choice." I've also pointed out that there are many bassists who don't care for either make. Freedom of choice is an excellent thing, IMHO.
And I think just recently I posted on another forum here on TB what you said about regardless of the choice they are both nice and you should be happy/proud to own a guitar that helps you better express yourself, WW, Spector... it doesn't matter, just love what you do. I said that passion regarding the things you enjoy is a wonderful thing.
I've never expressed any hate for anyone. I have made my feelings known about many things that I don't care for but at the same time I've made it clear that it's just my opinion.
What I said above, about the little German kid, chocolate, etc... is tongue in cheek. Was I trying to be cruel, mean-spirited, hateful?
No.
It was meant to be humorous, clearly adolescent, juvenille humor but as a male I reserve the right to grab a dose of potty humor off the shelf regardless of my age. As my wife points out... men are just big children anyway.
For myself, being a visual artist I find the image it conjures to be very humorous in an ironic sort of way. But would I waste the energy to actually do something like that?
No.
Would I have a face-to-face conversation with someone regarding my feelings over this subject? Sure, I have many times already. And did/would that conversation turn ugly? Of course not.
Without question, no.
So it appears to have pressed some button with you that you decided to drop in and let me know how innappropriate you found it. Again, sorry that it upset you so. If you read back to the previous posts I was simple throwing an attempt at humor in the pot where others had already started cooking the recipe.
I know I've posted on the forum you moderate. You've had plenty of opportunities to attempt to correct my "
hateful" attitude before now so I am curious about what prompted you to do so now? It just seems a little, I don't know... it almost feels like you have some sort of agenda for your post. Especially knowing you've seen my postings on this subject in your own forums. I've made my feelings on the subject very clear. Feel free to PM me if you like. And if not...
No worries. It's all good. Perhaps I can talk you into purchasing a Spector so you can join our club officially? As you said, they are "Excellent Basses"...
