I wish I could say the same, The first place I ordered gold knobs from, ended up refunding a week later, because they were out of stock, ordered from a second place on the 2nd (May), today i emailed them wondering what happened, they replied back and said that they just shipped them out today. I get the feeling they always say that:hmm::spit:

I know exactly what you mean. When that brown truck pulled up with my Spector, I made her wait till I inspected the parcel with a fine-tooth comb. The last thing I wanted was to open the box and find a damaged bass. I took pics as soon as I opened the box!

I just picked up a new Spector Performer 4 String.

This Bass was purchased and essentially left in the case and never played. So it is essentially new with the orginial strings on it.

I know these are the cheapest of cheap Spectors - but I am really impressed with this Bass considering it is bottom of the line (not sure they even make them anymore).

The action is low and it is so easy to play. I have played Fender Jazz Basses more than anything else - Vintage, 70's and Squiers.

The Bass is light - and sounds really good through my GK with an Ampeg Cab. Once I started playing it I was up very late - just digging how nice this Bass plays and sounds.

So now of course I am wondering how the nicer more expensive models play and sound.

A few questions: What strings do you recommend and given there are many different models of Spectors - what would you recommend a few steps up from this one? A model that I won't need a second mortgage to afford - with Family and kids and I can't even think of dropping a few Grand for another Bass.

Just wanted to say I am very impressed with how well this Spector plays and sounds and I think I have to try one of the higher end models just to satisfy my curiosity. Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance.

When I recently got my Spalty Euro 5, it had cheap steel wounds on it (contrary to the Sadowsky tapers in the photos), so I put on a set of Roto 77 Flatwounds I had sitting around. I like flatwounds. I liked the way it played with flatwounds.

On a lark, I went in on a Talkbass bulk-order free for all and got some spanking new Carvin Medium Heavy Nickel wounds. The B String is tapered. I thought that was pretty cool. So I put them on tonight.

Holy cow! This Spector has the EMG BCQ system in it and is the highest-end bass I've ever owned, but I am still amazed at the range of tones on that thing. I know the strings are new, and they can stand to break in some, but geez.

What does one do with all that control? Do you ever stop fiddling with it?

amazing bass
(might be a little over the price range i think they fall just short of 1800, not sure. but play it and that 1800 will be so worth it, then plug it into a good amp and you must have it ha. ugh i want that bass!)

and dr's worked pretty well on my spector. i like the heavier gauge set.

Ebay's been the way to go in finding Rebops really cheap in perspective. New Rebops cost around $1500 but can be had as cheap as $500 on ebay. A Euro 4 can go for about half the price of a new one so there are choices in the used market for under 1K.

I use DR Nickel Lo Riders on my Euro. They're clean, warm and punchy without deadening the sound. They remove just enough of the sizzle from the highs.

Definitely Ebay it! I bought a Rebop and Euro there and both were $500 + shipping and in new or mint condition.

I use Spector strings on mine and I think they sound awesome. I've only tried Rotosounds and hated them and Elixer nanoweaves and they were great too. I've been thinking about doing Low Riders next time I need new strings, but I don't know, just something about Spector strings on Spector basses...it just sounds awesome to my ears.

+1 on the used Euro or Rebop... lots of Spector for a lot less $$$... :D
