The 3 2A's I've had, I eventually ditched the Spectors for EMG's and it made a nice difference. It really tightened the bass up, added some punch to the mids and cleaned up the highs. They paired very well with the Hazlab.

I have found that the tone on my NS2JA-CR is tighter and has a more piano-tone on particularly the E string...
Not quite as 'full' as the thru neck, but more cutting/tighter...
Soon very soon I will have rebop, 5 string EADGC,zebrano oil finish,factory installed EMG DC and EMG BTS eq in my hands.
I order it last week and the best thing is the price around 900EUROS here in SLOVENIA.

Call me crazy, but I think the Zebrawood-topped ReBops look better than the N/T Euro Exotic Tops, as well as several other specific models and colors that look better with Black hardware as opposed to the Gold of the N/T Euros. It's also nice to see that most, if not all of their basses are now offered with a choice between the two. In some cases it's simply a matter of finishes clashing, in others too much "bling" on an Exotic Top plus Gold Hardware plus a visible neck-through.
I wouldn't call you crazy Ian! I think the Zebrawood and the black hardware is a stunning combination-a nice topwood and black hardware is my idea of heaven!
The basses look beautiful, I love mine!

About 3 or 4 times a week I get a request, then in slows down for a week or so. I ask people to pm me because I don't always get to the Spector Club thread as often as I like. I guess I should post reminders every now and again!

hello spector-experts.
i have a Korean made neck-through fiver (purchased new about 7 years ago). i've moved on to a whole pile of boutique basses but nothing i own matches this mid-priced Spector's low-end: BIG HONKIN' GRAND PIANO.
The only down-side is the bass weighs a ton. +++ten pounds.
So i'm wondering if maybe a new higher-end Spector is in my immediate future.
In general do the USA's and Czech models have great low-end? Or is my Korean bass some sort of anomaly?
Are the higher-end basses lighter?
Is it possible to get a piezo bridge on the czech models?

Firstly, let me recommend the Euro ReBop model as well. All the quality of the Euro N/T but bolt-on Alder body with a Flame Maple top. Significantly lighter than you Korean-made, and you can find them relatively inexpensive on the used market.
No anomaly on that.
It depends on how "higher-end" you're thinking... the ReBops are generally light and comfy (I have three, and prefer them to the neck-through models), the Euro LX not as much but lighter than a few years when they were made of solid maple - the Alder/Walnut/Maple body has cut down on the weight as well as giving them some additional "focus" with the Alder.
If you go all-the-way to a USA-build, I'm sure you can request a light wood for the amount you're paying (I've seen an all-ash USA NS-2) However, a Korean-to-US player might be the best upward move in basses *ever*!
Not by Spector, and I'm not sure of any aftermarket piezo setup with Spector bridge saddles.. although it would be a great idea and something to look into as a custom job.
