Spector/Kramer NS-20 1989. I bought it new in 1990 and it has been my only bass.

These pictures are awful, but my digital camera is currently broken.

I ordered a red one in 2000 and the music store called me later that day and persuaded me that a black one happened to be available right then for me to have. I already have a red Rickenbacker, so I said OK to that, and then several days went by. Finally I get a call from Stuart Spector himself, apologizing that he took the bass that was intended for me to do a show in Germany. He then made sure that a black bass was on its way to me. That's a guy who knows his customer service.

The bass itself is a delight and I've long planned to save up some serious cash to get an American-made sibling for it. This time, I want red. I found a 1980's model in a local music store (also black) and got some serious jonesing for a new Spector. My sole complaint about this one is that it weighs 11 lbs and tends to leave the shoulder sore after a 4-hour show. I am wondering if some of the newer Spectors are as heavy.

I understand, both my Euros are all-maple, neck-through models and they are pretty hefty, though neither one is 11 lbs:eek:. The newer neck-through Euros are now alder with a maple top and I imagine that this does a lot to lighten them up. Also, I picked up a Rebop 4-string (which is a bolt-on model) recently and I was surprised by how light it was compared to my 4-string.

The REbops are much lighter than the Euros but they are real neck heavy. I got rid of mine for that very reason. My Euros are all maple too and are heavy but, balance perfectly. Fair trade off in my opinion.

I didn't play the Rebop long enough to experience that, but I can see where it would be that way. Mine balances nice too, I can't complain about the weight when it sounds SOOOO good.

Thank you, Ray! I was just playing it tonight and I just could not help thinking, "Damn, I love Spector basses!" They are so versatile in the sounds that they produce. This is in large part to how responsive they are to the player.

Thanks for reminding me about my profile. I haven't revisited it since when I first joined TalkBass. It has been updated with my current gear. Also, my new GAS has been listed...

Spector U.S.A. Bolt-On. Specifically, an NS-2J. I can blame Garry Tallent for that!

Man, another beauty there! You're #34 and btw, you need to update your gear and gas list!

I want in! I just picked this baby up a couple of days ago, used, at a local guitar center. STOLE it for 700 bucks. It's in perfect shape and sounds and plays great. In fact with the spector and my mesa 400+ I think I've found the best metal bass sound I've ever had.

I was looking at the guys trans blue euro4 a couple of posts above mine and I see that his is flamed maple where mines quilted. I didn't know that they made both kinds. hmm. interesting.
