Squier Affinity Jaguar Bass...H?!

Aargh...... I was hoping the "Thin and Lightweight" description was really that....... and it probably is for some of them. But mine? Charcoal Frost with Indian Laurel Fretboard that weighs in at 8lb6oz....... still not bad, but I was-a-hoping that it would be in the "high 7lb range" like other's Jags have been. I guess that takes care of some neck dive, right (something I haven't really noticed)?? Anybody wanna trade bodies? Or basses? Lol.

Hi, just for info I posted certain dimensions on the Squier Classic Vibe Bass here:

Regarding the new Affinity H series, I can tell you the neck of the CV and this one are pretty spot on, dimension-wise. The neck for these is approx 1-3/8" shorter so....... if anyone is inclined to make it a 34" scale, you'd only have to set the bridge back roughly 5/8".
Also, compared to the Jaguar SS Bass, I took a few pics. I'd agree both these bodies are the same size. Same control plate, but a totally different pickguard shape, obviously due to neck heel width and pickup rout, but also just bigger all-around (closer to full scale.....wish I had one to compare with). Kinda trippy how the area by the neck pocket is hogged out to accommodate the wider neck, but no one can see that, lol.

Mods done! Just finished. G&L MFD, stock wiring harness, Albridge MM bridge, 3-way series/single/parallel switch, and hipshot licensed ultralites. Had to do the painters tape trick for the tuners, but install was really quick and easy. Used the G&L diagram for the switch, worked great. Series mode is SPICY, on the verge of overloading my amp. Parallel and single coil sound great. Video coming soon with the entire mod process and some sound clips!

Anxious for the video. I replaced the bridge with a decent Gotoh 201 and just received my Sentell Quad MM pup.Waiting on a 3 way switch from Reverb to start the install.I wish I possessed a fraction of your tech skills and I'll probably "Chicken Lobster" out and hand it over to Noll Guitars.

Been reading all the 15 pages now, so much interested in this gem!
Sorry for the dumb question, but, which type of strings is this bass supposed to be strung with? I've never had a 32" scale bass.. Short scale strings, or normal long scale? Or do you need to search for 32 inch scale strings specifically?

You can go with medium scale strings, but I found that that is a pretty rare sight. I used long scale D’Addario NYXL on mine, and it was good. You can also try short scale DR Strings, those are long enough for a 32” scale bass such as the Jag H.

Thank you sir. I'm always afraid to tighten the thick part of the strings around the tuners, even if when I had a set of Thomastik Infeld flatwound strings on a 34" Yamaha BB bass I never had a problem, and I had never cut those strings because the producer himself suggests to never ever cut those strings, being roundcore.
So, I really only have to choose a long scale set, or, because you mentioned DR strings, maybe I could try a set of High beams for short scale basses if they do that.. I had a set of High beams for a long scale bass years ago and I loved it.. I also found that I really liked their sound when they got old and lost all those harmonics

Not so... A careful search of string dealers will show quite a few sets of medium scale strings available. We Squier CV60's Mustang owners use them for our string-thru-body setups. I easily found both flats and rounds (D'Addarios) for my Squier Mustang; -sh be just as easy for Squier Jags....

D'Addario short tapes didn't work, there was silk south of the nut (get mediums).
Going to live on the (non)edge with TIFlats and will be going string on stem.
Will drop TI's upon install of Wainwright Customs plate/electronics and PU (leaning towards Delano J-Ray, but I have a PJ so I'm thinking dual MMan variant) but need to confirm 19mm spacing will work with setup and Fender Himass.

Great video! It gave me the confidence to do pretty much the same mods that I had in mind! Just different bridge and hipshot, but maybe with the bass extender. I was debating between this cheapo Jag and the fallout tribute, so this might be the best of both.

I love that the video got right to the point and actually showed the work. Thanks for putting it out there!

Thank you! I'm glad you appreciated the format. I've doing that for all my mod projects now and I've really been enjoying filming stuff like this.
