I think lightweight tuners are best bang for the buck upgrade. I just found used import Hipshots and they were great.
I may do the pickup too, but someone said just changing the wiring harness was enough.

I may do the pickup too, but someone said just changing the wiring harness was enough.
Hipshot kickass was a good addition. Still neck dives a touch, but that's just what these basses do. Kinda digging the mismatched hardware too.

If it's the same scale length and number of frets, it'll fit but may need some fine tuning (sanding the heel or pocket). This is typical of fitting an Fender-style necks and bodies together; there can be minor discrepancies in manufacturing tolerances.

i have an other 32 scale bass, an aria pro cardinal 300, I read much complaints about the pickup but next to the cardinal the jaguar h pickup is pretty nice, both high output and a bit bassy, in my drum bass vocals band the jag sits perfectly in the mix without any mods.
The jag is indeed a bit neck heavy, more than the cardinal. My question is: is the high mass bridge a big improvement on the stock bridge for the neck dive or is it only a slightly bit better?
For the neckdive is noticeable but not that much of an issue. Thanks boys and girls!

Tuners before high mass bridge.
Tuners did a lot, high mass bridge did a little. Together they are a huge improvement, imo.
Super comfortable now.
Hey you all, is there a standard model for a replacement pickup for this bass? Have been searching in this thread and see lots of more expensive and more difficult to find in Europe pickups. Someone can help me with a nice pickup that fits, is easy to find and is not too expensive?
Looking for something with more clarity and crispy highs/high mids. (play in a hardcore bass, drum, vocal band, so want the high mids covered well).
Can find a secondhand Delano MC 4 HE/S here, someone knows about this pickup and think it would be a nice improvement?

Pretty sure that will fit. But you could download the dimensions file on that page and double check.
Received one of these in the mail this week. I'm looking it so far although it seem to suffer from some of the common problems ie neck dive. My personal thread stopped getting traction so I'm hopping into the larger one - what do y'all think about these fit / finish details from when it was received? Acceptable?
The next thing I'm thinking about is something I've never really encountered - this pickup is HOT. Like, volume all the way up distorts my Shift line Olympic unless I turn that down. I have to crank it up to accommodate every other bass I own, from MIJ Fenders up to my Euro Spector. Is that normal with this line?

Yes this pickup is very hot. I lowered mine all the way down to attenuate it and it is still very hot (a tad hotter thant my active T-Bird)
Haha well I thought this would be a way for me to tame the bass but it arrived from the factory screwed down as far as it will go!

i'm struggling with the same MEC pickup. I wired it one way that I barely didn't hear a little sount out of it..
The pictures show me you wired it differently, and you changed the pots ? What did you use and how you cabled it pliz ? It will be so nice from you to help me build this mod bass for my son.

Anyway, has anyone tried replacing the original pickup with an Aguilar AG 4M pickup? If so I was wondering if it dropped right in or you had to do any extra work to install it. Thank you.

Should just drop right in. You could always download the spec sheet from Aguilar and measure your bass as a double check.
I started on a medium scale when I purchased my Aria Pro II TSB-400 new back in 1981 and never looked back. Welcome to the club! It's too bad they don't produce more medium scale basses. I think I'm going to pick up one of these in charcoal because I like the dark fingerboard. Then I'll have my son paint it red.
