Squier Classic Vibe 2019

I hit the fretboard with some boiled linseed oil(BLO) on my ‘19 60’s J. I must say it does look a lot better than the regular Indian laurel board. I do this once a year on my P.

So this is how it looks with BLO.

Hope this helps!!

I'd like to see shots taken on daylight please :) thanks

Ok... I went to check out the new 2019 CV 70's Jazz Bass.....

I wasn't that thrilled with the neck on the one in the store....sighting it, there were a lot of humps and bumps to the point of if you wanted to correct all of that, you'd need a refret....
I didn't even plug it in because either the pickups will be good enough to keep or I'll be replacing them... that's not a big deal right now..
The tuning machines look like Squier Affinity ones. They are cheap. Those will be getting replaced as well.
The binding on the neck is not as thick and or wide as it is on a standard Fender neck like the Geddy Lee Jazz Bass. It's rather thin but there were no sharp frets so that was good. The neck lacquer is really thick and the tint is a deep golden vintage look. The blocks are painted in. The neck pocket was tight and there were no gaps or cracks around it. It's a "C" shaped neck but it's not a tree trunk. More like the othe CV Jazz Bass from around seven years ago or so. The body was as flat as can be with a nice gloss and the buff job was great.
The bass was not heavy. I'd say it was under 9 lbs. The roundwound strings installed on it resonated really well through the body wood and unplugged, it was loud.

So........ I ordered one anyways because I want that body with the 70's pickup spacing. I have plans for a neck....
I ordered a natural finish bass as I will be stripping off all of the thick lacquer and refinishing it to another color........ As of today, it was out of stock at Fender but they are expecting more soon...
I thought it was a brand new model and already it's out of stock.. hmmmmm... anyways, I was told to expect to see it sometime around June...

Anyways, that was a short review and for the price it's still a great deal. If you don't like the neck... and those will be hit or miss and I'd expect a few more misses with these... you can get another one and then you're set with your 70's Jazz Bass way under the cost of a Fender 70's Jazz or the Geddy Lee model. Heck, at this price, you can get four of them for what a MIA model will run you.......and if I ordered a Jazz Bass the way I want it from the Custom Shop, I'd be looking at thousands....

Over all, if the neck would be better, then this bass would be a lot better but for $349 there isn't that much to complain about and you still get the body with the correct 70's pickup spacing.

We'll see what the neck is like on the one I get in a month or so..... pretty sure I'll be swapping it out though....

I'm sad that they're not puting out quality in these CV basses. To me I feel like even the VM are better

Overall, the VM might now be better than the new CV's but like I said, I can't complain too much because to get that body with the 70's spacing, I need to spend a TON more. I'll swap out the neck for another one I have in mind...it's still going to be waay less expensive for me to do what I am going to do with my Jazz Bass than if I were to have the custom shop build me one... plus, I want to do this one myself... MY baby. Later this year, when I finish it, I'll post photos..

But the VM P-basses seems to be unavailable in Europe now. None of the major dealers have them in stock anymore and they have been removed from the European Fender site. The new Indonesian CVs are now the only Squier P-basses available in Europe as far as I can tell (except some old stock at smaller dealers).

Are the VM P-basses heading for extinction or will they still be available in the US?

I can't say for certain about the US but here in Canada there aren't any VM's in the '19 Squier catalogue.

Personally, I'd rate the new CV's about on par with the old VM's. My VM 70's Jazz and the new CV 60's Precision both have a high 17th and 18th fret on the D string. Same machine doing the fret installing?

At this point I’m convinced that there is one man, on one machine, making every single sub-$500 instrument on earth! Here is my new CV60’s Jazz bass wearing its inspection stamps on a Musicman Sterling inspection card.

And with inspections texts no one ever understand. Quite funny thing! Poor Indonesian people working for us... sometimes I'm sad

The new Indonesian CV will replace whole VM series.

I see. So the new Indonesian CVs will actually replace both the old Chinese CVs AND the VMs? Basically the end of the VM series? Wow, that's news to me...

I'm sure the new Indonesian CVs are nice instruments for the price but they're replacing some of the best value basses EVER. Looks like Fender/Squier decided we got too much value and too many options for our money.

The VM 70s natural finish J-basses still seem to be available everywhere though. Will they be discontinued too?

I expect the Affinity series will still be available but I've never been particularly impressed with those.

Squier suddenly got boring after some great years with amazing instruments and exciting colors (much more so than Fender).

I'd say the Player series looks like the best value from Fender these days. But I kinda see the logic behind all of this from a business perspective. The quality acrosse the product range seems to be more in line with the price now. Some of the discontinued Squires were simply TOO good for the price.

Player series is boring -to me-, even though people seem rather happy with it. I believe them. As for the past Classic Vibe series for Squier, to me the best Fenders over the past decade (maybe couple of decades) has been the Classic Series and some Road Worn, affordable, and packing great specs. :)

Forgot to post a pic of my new CV 60s Jazz. This one is way better than the one I played a NAMM in Jan. Maybe I judged the whole line from those examples I didn't care for. This one is great, only needed a slight tweak of the neck. Fret edges are great and overall its excellent fit and finish. A ton better than the Players Series Jazz I returned a few weeks ago. Now looking to get the CV 60s P.

Awesome! Hopefully my local shops will have them someday. I'll give a new try.

I had to order mine from Sweetwater. Our local GC is not going to carry them and they only have a few Squiers. I know them well there and a friend who works there told me straight up that they are not stocking them because they have been outselling the MIM Fenders. They don't get as much of a cut on cheap Squier basses like they do on Fenders, so there you have it.

In trending topics, you can find a guy who had to MIM and a Squier and he prefered the Squier for freting quality and so on. MIM Artist and Road Worn series are amazing... the Player, not so much, not my taste at all. What they offer is boring.

My 2011 Squier CV 60 JB against my 2017 Fender Special Run 70 JB, who wins in term of overall feel and quality? My Squier. Better fretjob, better neck joint finish, better lacquer feeling, better cavity work. One is the triple of the price of the other... I mean!
