Paint it what color? The pg is thick solid plastic. Not at all cheap, no more than any other. It's meant to look like the original. The originals had laquered fiberboard, that's cheap. In those days bakelite would have been top end.

Picked up a '51 P last week, and I'm lovin' it

No, I think 2 screws lined up, but not perfect. Kind of making the screws go in at a slight angle. But you have to really look and focus to notice it. The rest of the screws I had to redrill.
But with the end results, it was worth it. The old holes are hidden. I like how this 51 pickguard fits the upper and lower horn (is that what they call it?) of the body.
I actually have this bass for sale in the classifieds but I'm on the verge of pullin' it. Everytime I look at it, I know I can never replace it for what I'm askin'. I might go ahead and order a single screw tug bar just to finalize it.

Yea, only 2 lined up. The 1 above pickup cover and the one under control plate. I don't know if you can tell in this pic. I put the guard on but you can see the holes I had to drill and already put the 2 screws that lined up in.

I've owned and played some high ticket basses over the years but I think the best bargain I've ever found is the CV 60's Jazz Bass I just bought. This is a very nice instrument in tone, playability and appearance. I'd been reading great reports on the Squier CV line and I'm pleased to find that what's been said is very accurate.
I began playing bass on a friends 63 PBass and the first pro bass I ever owned was a 66Jazz Bass which I tend to prefer over a PBass for most things. I looked around a bit and picked this bass up used (but not very) without a mark on it for $250 including a gig bag. That's less than I paid for that 66 and the quality is very comparable. Who says you can't turn back the hands of time.
I don't play as much as I used to. The fact is I'm just coming back from a five year a sabbatical from playing bass so I really don't need a spare or a backup. But.....these basses are so good for the price that I don't think I'll be able to avoid picking a PBass as well although I'll have to think long and hard about Fiesta Red. Candy Apple yes but the Fiesta isn't my favorite or maybe the Matt Freeman model.
I'll probably begin looking for used one sometime early next year. So count me in as a guy who appreciates a great bass more than whose name is on the headstock.

The pickguard looks a little bit cheap though...
Dont forget that in the pic the PG still had the plastic cover on it. This always makes PG's look cheap and nasty IMO.
Translucent blue with either this, a matte black or a 3-ply Tortoise. I love how blue can take all pg colours
Not to mention since the Pine has a more interesting grain than basswood I can have this just like my Sunburst Music Man

I had seen this one before on the LPB, both look really amazing with this Matte pickguard!!I replaced the stock gaurd on mine with a 51 RI matte black. It just looks like a better fit. I like the matte black cause its not as shiny and no finger prints...

Q. Can this bass look bad with any pickguard?I also have a tort pickguard I like. I bought it in the classifieds awhile back. It was actually made for the CV 50s bass. But I like the matte black better.

I'm ordering one of these A.S.A.P., get over with this G.A.S. episode that's bee lasting for almost 3 years now and if I feel like it I might just re-paint it (In translucent finish, obviously!)

Yes, the pickguard looks bit cheap, because it's supposed to be a vintage, chunky kinda pg. Another thing is that I took the pic when the protecting plastic was still adhered. Now I took it off (because it was already peeling), and it looks a lot better, but it's shiny and a fingerprint magnet.
Are you painting the bass? In which colour, if you don't mind me asking?
P.S. Apologies if this fueled your GAS, but I don't blame you. It's a gorgeous bass with plenty of rumbling power, and a very nice slap tone.
Oh, what is a ISP Decimator and how do you install it on the bass? I wanna know because the only thing I don't like about the bass is the humming.

Nope, I don't have samples. In fact, I don't really know how to slap a bass very well. I lent it to another bassist and he blew me away with his slapping... on my 50's P. So, yeah, I think it's doable. I know it probably sounds anachronistic, but maybe Squier intended this bass to have a more varied tone than the actual 51's P bass.
Most must have a noise gate (Shuts down your signal beneath a threshold. Maybe that could help slightly? I don't thing hum suppressors are integrated in MultiFX
That sounds really cool! I never use slap, but when I play with a pick I can "mimic" the slap sound; obviously I can't "Pop" on it with the pick, but given I have a rather brutal attack I get really close. I need to get one of this ones with my next paycheck, it's decided!
