Got my CV Jazz Bass in July of 2011. It's just a great bass. I did a few mods...
Mint green pickguard, Fender Original Jazz Bass pickups, stereo/mono wiring, no tone pot, better volume pots, unfinished tung oiled neck, matching Olympic White headstock wirh Fender Jazz Bass decals. Rotosound RS 77 LD flatwounds tuned DGCF.

Down the middle: CV Sonic Blue 60's P (w/ chromes and a bit o' foam stuffed under the ash tray)
Left: CV 60's J neck pickup
Right: CV 60's J bridge pickup

That is a really phat, nice tone!! Really diggin' it.
I'm getting into the studio with my 50's P this weekend and we'll see how it fares. so far all I've needed was a bit of EQ to avoid the sharp attack the pickup has, but other than that it has a rather unique sound to it ;) Really proud my bandmates dig it as much as I do :hyper: (Not that I care if they didn't :P)

I just sold a Marcus miller jazz at a real reasonable price because I'm a P guy.

My plan was to buy a MIM P bass in the color of my choice as a backup to my main player P. I played a few of them and was completely underwhelmed by the neck.

I have been follwing talk about the CV's, and then saw the Matt Freeman, which was the color/fretboard combo I wanted. Since there was 15% off coupon code on my MF catalog I decided to pull the trigger.

All I can say is WOW:hyper:. It looks great, and plays great!
I have a cloth wire P pickup that I may put in, but it sounds pretty good too, and we have a show tonight, so I'm gonna wait till after that to decide.

My main point here is no-one should be afaid of squier basses. IMO the higher grade ones blow the mim's I've had, and tried, out of the water.

Plus I used the money I didn't waste on the mim and bought a MONO dual gig bag ( with the 10% dicount for valentines) that will protect the Matt F, and my main P.

Also, gas is ugly- When i sold the miller for cash I was originally gonna buy more lights for the band, but another bass sucks me in......



I'll take a number if Matt makes me eligible- I've had Squiers before, but this one makes me a fan!

Well, I wanted an unfinished neck because the laquer on the CV's is a very slow, sticky feeling type and I didn't just want to make it a 'satin' type of finish and I also didn't want to just remove the fininsh from the heel to the beginning of the back of the headstock so it was at that time that I thought about a matching Olympic White headstock...so I got out the trusty old Makita sander and removed all of the laquer from the entire neck, right through the face and decals. I then cleaned it with a cloth soaked in naptha and then used a tack cloth to remove all of the dust. I masked off the face, leaving just the smallest wrap around the edge and sprayed it with a couple of coats of appliance white. After it was dry a day later, I applied the Fender decals I obtained from a site that I'm not allowd to mention here. I waited till the next day and applied three mist coats of Deft clear gloss laquer, gave that a day and then continued with medium coats and then heavier coats of laquer over the course of a couple more days, bringing the total coverage to 15 coats. I let it sit and cure for a week and then wet sanded it flat and buffed it out. I then removed the masking tape carefully and applied a couple coats of tung oil to the back of the neck and re-assembled the bass. I used it the next day for a gig and was completly happy with the feel of the neck and the headstock didn't look too shabby at the show either.
It was a real fun project to do and I wish I could do more like it.
Maybe someday I'll get another project bass and play with it.

I'm pretty happy with it and that bass is as modified as it's ever going to be.

I think it's the DP127.

Could you tell me something more about their sound?
I'm just looking after some new pickups to my Fender P bass (mexico) and I was thinking about Dimarzio DP 122, Dimarzio DP 122 and the 1/4 pounder.

Does this Dimrazio pickup fit rock/pick playing with some distortion?
Because I heard that it's a very hot pickup (it catches unwanted dirt and playing mistakes) and that you loose a bit of the "P bass" sound. Is this true?

It is a very hot pup. Sound like the difference between a passive and active bass volume-wise. I play flats with fingers ,so make. Very little string noise though . The tone is fat and thick,maybe moe modern than the average p , but still cuts like a p bass pickup should.
I may put one in the squier just so I dont have to tweak volume when switching basses.
Great pup, but pry not for everyone IMO .
