Not so--I bought an aftermarket Fender replacement tort guard for my 60's P and it was a perfect fit, holes and all. Took a little massaging around the pickups, but I got it right on.

I would love to be proved wrong. Might be helpful if you posted a link to the exact pickguard you bought. For the most part, the Squier pickguards aren't the same as your standard Fender.

I bought it used from Dan Atkinson here on TB.

And yeah, I know the Squier ones aren't usually the same, but I did some research and found people who said they were a direct fit so I took a gamble on it and it fit just fine.

I have bough a thin Aluminium pickguard for Fender p bass (MIA/MIM), it fited fine on my CV60 p bass. Maybe the CV basses (and VM?) are closer to the Fender spec then the other Squier models?

I can confirm what Shmandy said. Ordered a black pearl Fender pickguard from MF for my Jazz and it was a perfect fit. From what I've come to understand many MIA replacement part will fit the Squiers

Apparently so. glad to hear it. About time. I know quite a few people who have had to have pickguards made for other Squier models and even Fenders if they were off from normal spec. Much nicer to be be able to buy "off the rack" so to speak, as long as you want standard colors and designs.

Took it out to a radio gig this morning. (Oh god, you know 5 AM is really not the right time to wake up and leave for a gig...)
Covered a Miike Snow song with it.

Bass tuned half step down. GHS Flatwounds, Markbass DI. All controls open.
Funny little detail; the high accents at 1:38 and 2:50 were 1-shot sampled harmonics played twice the sample speed. So 1 octave up. (Line6 DL modeling thing, you can hear it clicking actually lol)
Effect at the end is the Markbass Super Synth, I should tweak that envelope response though.

Bass sounds great, and looks great too ;) Ofcourse there's that lovely FM radio compression aswell lol....Excuse the sloppy timing... what can I say.. it was early ;-)

Also that's a really nice tone overall! I would like to try flats on a Jazz bass just to see if that's one of the many tones I've always had in my head... :hiding:

PS: Where are you guys from?

Oh.. and here comes another excuse to cover my sloppy playing; I didn't tune back from Eb to E (tuning I usually use; I went to Eb to get that low Eb in the Miike Snow tune, and the harmonics on Bb,or B, in Eb. Or is it E. God transposing can be confusing..), figured it's not that hard before I realised I actually play some open strings in this song, haha.

Gotta say, these CV basses are really great imo. I wanted a Precision next to the mostly Jazzbass sounds I already had, and this thing nails it. Think I've said it in my initial post, when I purchased it (actually it was a present, but handpicked it so to speak..) I had another one of these in my hands; That one looked like it was begging to warp its neck in a few years. That seems to be the only thing to look out for; the quality of the wood used for the neck. That said; Ive only ever seen 3 of these basses; 2 were great, 1 I was suspicious about. I actually found out a friend of mine bought the one I initially fell in love with! :) small world eh..
