Holy crap!! That LPB looks amazing with the pearloid pickguard + cream thumbrest!!I finally got a half-way decent pic of my 50's precision in its current configuration. Lindy Fralin's split-coil ROCKS in this bass!
How much output/overall sound difference did you notice with the Lindy Fralin? I've been wondering forever if I should change the stock for the Quarter Pounder I had ordered before I even got the bass but DAMN!! That stock pickup sounds really good!
PS: Where did you get that thumbrest?
Yesterday I took my BSB P-50's to the studio to record my band's new song. By the end of recording my part the audio engeneer came by to help me unplug everything and make room for the g***ar stack and all that and then he asked "How much did you pay for the bass?" "Around $325" "That's a bargain for a vintage bass!! " "... it's a Squier"

I got to admiring another player's with the same combination in the "Why so few single-coil P basses?" thread. It's an antique white pearl from Jeannie's and fits like a glove. The tugbar is maple and available from Bass Parts Resource. I took John K's advice on the Fralin pickup and, as usual, he was right on. These are not quite as bright as the stock pickup (or the Lollar that I also tried) but they do the E string justice. There is a bit more overall bass and the mids punch significantly better. The coils are RWRP so they cancel hum. This one is the stock (7k) wind and has about the same output level as the stock and Lollar pickups. The higher price compared to other aftermarket single-coils is completely worth it IMHO. John installed this pickup for me as well as the bridge and performed some fine tuning on the nut and setup. The bottom plate on the pickup had to be re-shaped a bit to fit in the existing route. It ALMOST fit, but not quite...

Sweet! I had similar plans for mine before it was stolen. I put a BassLines 1/4 pounder in it, but it didn't make a huge difference. I still have the stock pup that's going in a fretless project, should be interesting.

In my defense I bought all four of them for a less than I sold my Nash 57 P for. I loved the Nash, but it's more fun to have a stable for the same $. Aside from the cheap pots and jack (which I replace as needed) I don't feel like I'm giving up anything going from the Nash to one of these.
I'm really not set up to record at home. Let me see if I can figure something out , and if so I'll pm you so we don't clutter up the thread. I'll also have to locate a plectrum

There are a couple of places on Google shopping that say they have them in stock. I almost called one of them to see if was really available, but I'm trying to quit buying so much gear and managed to tap the brakes. If you put it in your cart it discounts it to about $325....so tempting:

I did a little more research on World Music Supply, and apparently they are legit in that they aren't ripping people off. However, there were a number of reports of people ordering things that showed to be in stock on the web site and were mysteriously on "backorder" once the cash was laid down.
Yeah I mean...I don't see why they would not be a "legit" store...but..I don't think they got dibs on the bass....I would assume the mothership of all online stores would get it in stock first right? And probably at a better price.
Hey a question for the CV 60's Jazz. I wanna put a new nut on mine (A-string slot is too low) and I have not removed the original nut yet. Preferably I'd like to have the new nut in my hands before I pull the old nut.
I'm looking Link Removed currently and some of the nuts have flat bottoms and some have curved bottoms. Can anyone tell me what the CV 60's jazz wants?

I don't have any info on the shape of the nut slot, but I've fixed single low slots many times by filling them partially with superglue and then filing it back to the desire height after it dries. This will work if the slot is just slightly too low, but if it's drastic a new nut may be the right move.
Just picked up my 60's CVP today. Sonic Blue too. This one was listed for $263.99, whereas the FR was listed at $349.99. I have smaller hands and thought I'd never find better than the '83 Peavey Foundation I own. This is it. I am in love with this bass, the tone, the feel, the color. EVERYTHING! The only mod I am considering is a Tort or Vintage Pearl pickguard.

Congratulations on your new bass. I love my sonic blue P as well. I ended up spray painting my pickguard gold, but I'd like to pick up a Tort one some day. They're not that easy to replace since you have to have one made.
