The clear coating on the neck and body is very strange and bizzarre substance known by the code name polyurethane:

A polyurethane (PUR and PU) is polymer composed of a chain of organic units joined by carbamate (urethane) links. Polyurethane polymers are formed by combining two bi- or higher functional monomers. One contains two or more isocyanate functional groups and the other contains two or more hydroxyl groups. More complicated monomers are also used. The alcohol and the isocyanate groups combine to form a urethane linkage:

ROH + R'NCO → ROC(O)N(H)R' (R and R' are alkyl or aryl groups)

Maybe I'm just not fast enough of a player to get my hand to stick?

It doesn't bother me a bit either. I tend to have dry skin so maybe that's the difference.

I threw this pic up in the tweaked Squier thread, too, but here's my 1.5 CV Jazz basses. The natural blonde VM body has a CV neck on it and it's AWESOME! More work to do there, and some more to do on the stock CV, too. I've gotta say that the black pearl pg just transforms the look of the instrument, though. To my eye it just dresses it up with an extra dab of class.

Lol I get some of the technical stuff, but I was asking from your experiences! and of course I guess it'll depend on me :P

A guy earlier on the CV club thread had pics of the bb 50s with pg off. No route, and the neck pocket was clean and tight. Just like the pup route. At first my neck seemed tacky, but after playing it constantly, now smooth and fast. You could wax it with car wax like SurferJoe does.

BTW, Fender site calls the finish polyESTER, not polyurethane. Not the same thing. EDIT: Well it used to say....

yep found it after lurking for a while :P thanks I might as well go for the pickguard-less look on mine :D I'll be here as soon as i get it :cool:

im with you, i dont get it either. the guy i got my bass from didnt disclose the scuffed neck before i got the bass. so at first i was bummed, but after playing the bass for a few weeks, i could care less. the bass rocks, and the clear coat on the neck doesnt make or break that fact.

i agree with you, the necks on the cv's are great, and i think one of the best aspects of these basses. its unreal how nice the necks are on these basses, and for this price point.

The neck is surprisingly comfy despite the chunky feeling at first. I think the BSB is less thick than the LPB, but maybe that's just me... :hiding:

Add me to the "glossy neck don't bother me." club. Up until '09, when I got my '08 MIA Jazz, I'd only ever played basses with glossy necks, and it's only recently that I've heard that some people have a problem with them. I do like the feel of the satin necks, but, TBH, it's not a consideration for me in buying a bass. Never felt "sticky" to me in the least.
Kinda like I also never had a problem with neck dive or a bass being too heavy, complaints that I hear all the time from others that I've never even thought about.

I hadn't played a satin neck until I bought a Stingray two years ago. I sanded off the neck of a Chinese P/J bass I have (My first bass, actually) and liked it a lot better. However, the gloss finish on my cheap Chinese bass was crap; the glossy finish on my P-50's isn't sticky at all even after 3 or 4 hours of rehearsing (And believe me, I sweat A LOT!)

I'm not really fond of the thick poly neck finish. Fifteen minutes with a scotchbrite pad made it much better.

Since I did the Scotchbrite treatment, my CV jazz is a real gas to play.

BTW - I like the sound of my CV jazz better than my old Am. Dlx.:hiding:

I must have very unsophisticated ears.
