Being that someone else posted a pic of the same combo, I took the liberty of pinching theirs.
This is a great bass for gigs where you dont want to risk an expensive bass. I've strung it with my twelve year old set of TI Jazz Flats. Perfect!

This post makes me think that the right thing to do is to buy both a Fiesta Red Classic Vibe '60s Precision and a Vintage White Matt Freeman Precision, and then swap the pickguards.

its a godd*mn shame I missed your exam Hidde! Knew it was on, but had an important rehearsal myself.. So sorry I missed it!
CVs, and VMs (although a bit less than the CVs) rock, funk, jazz like the rest (Fender Std) of them!
Sure, my VM Jazz is an 'airplane' bass, my CV Pbass doesn't get much action, but I love both of them. Great instruments, really great. (The VM Jazz I got even got me thinking of selling my '73 Jazz........though passed after a week or so, but still..haha)

Ive just (finally) got my PG sorted out. for those tht missed the issue i had, i had put in a pup that was slightly bigger than standard size so i couldn't get a new PG to fit without filing it down and after making a bit of a mess with the stock PG i couldn't be bothered to do it with the new one.
Ive now got a Fender 62 Original pup in and its a perfect fit for the black PG i've had for a while, so here it is fitted.
I now like the Fiesta red a lot more with the black PG on. I've never been keen on Fiesta red (i love Cherry red) and along with the tort PG i just couldn't get on with the looks of this bass but now i love it.

Did you change the bridge on that bass? Looks different from the stock

Giorgetto, search for others that have made the switch to those types. I have read here that to some, the switch didn't give them a P tone, just no hum and it sounded less agressive. They weren't happy. I find the stock has a nice bite and once the band starts up nobody notices the hum. If you have a Stratocaster in the band, at least he can't complain about hum! Just research first so you don't spend money on a sound you don't like.

Mine seems to have a problem with string to string volume consistency, no matter how I adjust the pickup heights. I have a "Fender Original P Bass pickup" sitting new in box I was thinking about putting in mine (60's CV). Anyone done this here?

PS 96Tbird- my standard Telecaster hums like crazy through a tube amp, too. And you can't hear it when playing with others.....

OK Bassagent, you inspired me to lay down my hard earned £'s on a CV50's! Lovin it so far, can't wait to gig it, always loved that 51 P shape. :hyper: My initial impression when i've played them in stores was how thick the neck is. But after playing mine more at home it feels fine and i love the vintage frets. The weight really surprised me too, feels much lighter than my MIA P standard

Only 2nd day though and the socket has already come loose...oh well easily fixed...i'll probably get an electrosocket (and some ashtrays of course!)

BTW, anyone giving out numbers?

It is actually little loose in the body hole, the top edge has a rim that is a near perfect flush fit to the wood. Pre drill the two mounting holes on the inner edge of the socket holes so the screws draw it down flush into the hole. Once installed it's in there securely. Looks great, works great, no more loose jack, easy to remove for service.
