i believe these basses share pickups with the VM series. i'm in love with my VM jazz. once the '94 P is pulled out of layaway, i think my life will be complete lol

Actually, the VMs use Duncan Designed JB-101 pickups, while the Squier CVs use unmarked Alnico V pickups. These new pickups are mellow and vintage voiced, but sound very nice. They even have beveled magnets, too.
I can't wait to see what the review of the 50's P will be like. Somebody hurry up and get one! LOL!
Yep, this has been the issue for me in all the Squiers, too, and is the reason why I went CV 60's P instead of the VM. The satin finish feels very cheap, and combined with the lightness of the neck wood it doesn't give you a very good impression - "balsa wood" as you said. This is especially true if there's a maple fingerboard that has the same finish and cheap wood
I have one of the last Squier MIJ Tele's (the cheap ones) and the neck has collected lots of grime over the years because of the worn out thin satin finish. It's cool if you like it worn&torn, but I'd prefer a proper gloss.
Is it just me or does Squier instruments feel smaller than their Fender counterparts. I mean Jazz to Jazz, like Std vs Squire seems little demure in their profile not full size. That is one of the reason I've never gotten one the don't feel like a standard Fender.

Sweet mother of god , I was gassing for a mim p bass but after seeign some of these im actually gassing for a squier now
yea, i noticed it first when i saw the MIJ jazz, then when i picked it up. that thing was very heavy. the difference is not quite as big with the P's, but still a difference.

For the guys interested in the 50s single coil P:
there are several people who make split wound single coils to hum cancel...but, they're gonna run nearly the cost of the instrument...

I didn't even notice until you pointed it out. Yes, the saddles are brass.

GAS!...GAS!!!
Fender finally got it right. They are now able to produce passable basses for cheap, which means the GAS pains hurt worse. Once you know you can afford to buy a good bass, trying to keep from buying the bass becomes even harder. This is the same reason I don't go to Rondo music online: if I did, I'd be broke!
