Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V -- Unbelieveable Bass!

Ok I got about 8 PMs since I did this mod yesterday to my new Squier Active Jazz 5 String.

They ranged from whats it sound like to how hard is it etc.

Its a simple mod and can be applied to most active basses easily. I can now run this bass with a battery completely taken out of the bass. Good for those gigs when the battery dies.

You will still have the ability to blend between pickups and volume will act as normal, but you will have no tone controls in passive mode, in active mode everything works as stock.

Ok here is the sound sample. I chose 311's Love Song cause the song rides on the B string quite a bit. An everyone is curious as how these B strings sound.

So here we go, recorded direct to PC with just a touch of reverb, no EQ or Amp simulations. Recorded with Line6 Toneport into Audacity for OSX. I cut the original track down -24db at 300hz to eliminate the low end in the song.

A little off topic, but I need somewhere to vent. I ordered a Squier Deluxe Vintage Jazz V from music123 on December 16th (with expedited shipping). A few days after ordering I got an email saying the bass had shipped, but there was no tracking number to be found. A couple days after that email a box from Music123 was at my door, and inside was a pink Ibanez acoustic-electric guitar. I called them that day, there customer service rep emailed me a return label, I put the Ibanez back in the post that same day (Thurs. Dec. 20). After returning from a Christmas vacation I called music123 to check on my order, (by now it was Dec. 27th), they told me they had just that day gotten the Ibanez at their return center, and my bass would most likely not ship out for a fews day, most likely on Jan. 2nd or 3rd. At this point I would have canceled the order, but since my parents were paying for it (as a Christmas present) I was being patient.

Cut to today (Jan. 3rd), I check my email, and Ive gotten a backorder notice from Music123, and have been informed that they will not have my bass in stock until Jan. 17th. :mad:

At this point I am canceling my order and will reorder the bass from Elderly Instruments (the only online dealer I know of that has the bass in stock). I am also swearing off Music123 for life after this experience. While I realize that it is the holidays, and this must be "crunch time" for music123 and it's parent company Musician's Friend/Guitar Center, with the size and resources of their company this sort of thing shouldn't really happen.

So there that is, sorry for the rant, but I really needed to vent.

Yea, I thought about trying to get some free stuff out of them if I kept the order, but then after talking it over with my parents we decided it'd be better if they didn't get to keep the 300 and some-odd dollars at all. Looks like I am going to order it from Elderly, and have it shipped to my apartment, which I will be returning to in about 3 days.

I got one of these for Xmas this year and while I haven't been able to put as much time into playing it as I would have wanted to so far, I decided to use it at our New Year's Eve gig and I must say that this bass really delivered. Mine is very warm and smooth as opposed to the Squire Precision Special 5er that I have. I used it completely stock (strings and all) and I was very happy, so I know that I will dig it that much more once I get some different strings on there. I got the bass initially with modding in mind (possibly Audere pre and Nordstrand pups), but now I'm not so sure. Between this and the P special 5 I have quite the formidible (inexpensive) gigging duo.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the pre sucks. Granted, it's no OBP-3 but it's not entry level Ibby either. After 5 shows with it, Neither I, my soundman or the audience have anything to complain about, tone-wise. I get plenty of bridge pickup burp with mine. I actually like the bass bone stock (despite my loathing of anything but black hardware). I'm sure I'll feel compelled to mod it down the road (I already have Black Hipshot Ultra Lites and a black string tree that are earmarked for the bass), but I'm not really in any hurry.
