Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V -- Unbelieveable Bass!

I've had mine for several weeks now. It definitely has a "pro" feel to it. The fretboard and the fret work are excellent. So far, I prefer the tone of the bass with the slap switch off vs. on. These are so far beyond a great value, it's insane what they can charge for this bass. Oversees manufacturing quality has indeed come a long, long way.

My "black out" project is complete...........

Badass V bridge, Hipshot tuners, carbon fiber nut, neck plate and string tree and powdercoated stock knobs. I was going to make knobs but ended up taking the easy way out. I also treated the back of the neck to some vintage tint. I didn't care for the VERY white wood. The bass plays so well, I might go for a pickup and preamp upgrade. My only complaint is the finish on these is VERY easy to scratch. I may ended doing the flat black treatment to the body and headtock along with some red pinstripes.

I still have the CF neck plate on my workbench. It's assembled with the titanium one I made right now. I'm going to wait until I take it apart again to put the CF neck plate on. It's nothing special but it matchs the nut and string tree.

Don't remind me about the problems I had with Hipshot :mad: A very nice guy from a VERY well known bass company sent me a grommet so now they all match!!! :)

well, after many a delay, I finally got my squier DJAV last thursday. Man do I love this bass, its 1000x better than my SX's (not to say the SX's are not good). Ive been playing it with the mid knob all the way up, the bass a smidge up and the highs set at center, and man does it sound perfect to my ears. And the neck feels amazing to me, the exact way a five string should feel.

I went to guitar center today to pick up a birthday present for a freind, decided to try a few basses against my squier. Out of various Ibanez's (a couple SRs, and a BTB), a few Fenders (American Jazz, a couple standard MIM and a MIM Deluxe Jazz), two Warwicks (FNA Jazzman, and Active Corvette standard) and a couple Stingrays I couldn't find a bass I perfered over the Squier. The stringray had a comprable tone, but I love the neck on my squier. I cannot beleive this bass was only $300.

I plan on modding the aesthetics of this bass till it looks like a custom jazz, sadowsky knobs, sanded headstock with custom logo, and a custom tort pickgaurd.

Here's a pic with a template for the pickguard, which still needs to be modified near the cutouts.

wow,, i haven't read this thread in awhile :hiding:

but i absolutely love the tone of the Big Singles, this thing CUTS,, & sounds FREAKIN INCREDIBLE passive,, i actually just picked up a fender american deluxe jazz v in a trade, but my Squire is still my go-to fiver,, it's THAT GOOD..

I finally got my Deluxe Jazz Bass today and it doubled the size of my bass family. The set up was pretty good right out of box. All I had to do was to loosen the truss rod just a little and tune it up. I've been playing it for several hours and I must say that I love this bass.

The preamp and pickups sound surprisingly good and I can dial in a huge variety of tones. Before I got the bass I was thinking of buying an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp but right now it seems unnecessary to me. Amazing quality for less than 300 euros.

Cool pic!! :) Even with my EXPENSIVE EFING Nikon, I can't take in indoor bass photo that's worth a shizit :(

I have not tried one long at my GC but from what i did hear they are sweet. The only thing i didnt like is its pretty dang heavy. How is it with a strap? Also i need fretboard dots...i guess i could ad some. I have been missing my 5er since i sold it and these things look sweet and from what you guys say they are.

I've had my Squier DJAV since Christmas, and I have to say this is one amazing bass. Paired with my P-Bass with flatwounds, I have a huge arsenal of sounds at my disposal. Slap? Jaco? Clickity-Clackety? Muddy and thumpy but with that roundwound sound? Zingy? You name it. Haven't had to change a thing at all, or wanted to.

Lots of positive comments here, but I must admit that when I picked one of these basses up at Guitar Center a few weeks ago, it just didn't feel good in my hands. It was nowhere near as solid as my Yamaha BB415 feels, or even as good as my old BB404 and BB605 did, at the same price point. Just my preference, to each his own.
