Squier/Doom Bassquiers 49: Squiers The Beef?

I probably play my Ric different than just about anyone in this thread. I typically anchor my thumb on the very rear of that treble bezel, so I'm actually playing behind the bridge pickup. Then in the really fast parts, I actually move my thumb to the rounded corner of the pickup housing itself and angle my hand back to get some really good speed out of my index and middle finger. Parts like this are what I'm talking about, where I'm playing high speed 16th notes at 3:58:

Tried the 3 pro at gain levels from 9 to 2 o'clock. Liked it best around 10 o'clock. Just doesn't punch as well as the 810. Might end up boosting the low mids a bit more with the graphic'

I've always had my eyes open for the Deep Peavey 2x15, the shallower ones pop up with some regularity but I've yet to see a 215D.

I used to use a SVT3 Pro, I dont want to be condescending at all, but you do know that the clipping light is like fully constant red at normal playing volume? I dont know why Ampeg even put it in there, it just scares people from turning their amp up thinking they'll overheat it... I was like that for awhile until enough people told me an SVT3Pro can play happily with everything dimed (even though it'd sound like crap.)

So to coax the most juice out of that sucker that I could, I wouldn't use the graphical EQ, I'd put the Master volume at maximum and control the actual volume with the Gain knob. Usually Master would be maxed and Gain turned up to around 3/4. Turn the "tube drive"/"compression" or whatever mostly clockwise to get more clarity and cut, this is more clean/solid state tone but you won't mush out as easily. Don't engage Ultra High or Ultra Low or the Input Pad or Bass Boost or any of that crap... just crank your low mids like you are now. Any effect that amplifies your input volume will help get you some more headroom too, the SVT3 pre can take alot of juice it seems without clipping out.

Also, you would not believe the difference between a single 2x15 and two 2x15s. When my guitarist was using a halfstack, I could "get by" on a single 2x15. Now that he has the fullstack, I always run a 2x15 with another big 4 ohm load next to it... but you'd have to bump up from the SVT3 if you want to get down to 2 ohms.

Laz spent awhile coaxing more volume out of a 3Pro, may give you some tips. I think he rocked the graphic EQ and maxed the sliders or something.

I've switched my bass height around over the years. It's relatively low in bongripper, but it's comfortable for how I play.

Every few months I have to readjust my strap because it gets moved lower from the weight of the bass and swinging it around at shows, it happens gradually so I don't notice, but once I pull the strap back up it always feels a lot more comfortable.

yea i gotta get used to playing it more. the action is a bit higher then my LP but it suits the very low tuning. I could easily tune down to like G tho if i wanted to

Well, when I had my SVT-3 Pro I would dime the master and the gain and I'd still get lost in the mix. While that amp sounds good, I thought the overall output coming from it was underwhelming. I was also using an SVT-610HLF at the time, which to this day is the worst cabinet I've ever owned, so there's that too...

Man Greta is a fun little lady, she farts fuzz with knobs dimed through the tiny little 4 inch speaker. But the best part is gets a very similar tone to my Champion when run through my Yorkville 15, and now I have a a preamp to to put in the Traynor amp in without buying some dohickey attenuator type deal. Plus she just looks great.

Also man I dig the MXR M120 auto Q big time. I was really trying to find an auto wah that sounds like a crybaby, hate working the foot pedal of a wah, just want it peak when I want and this does it great. I don't care for the slap happy flea evelope sound and it seems all the auto wahs I had before were like that. And she sounds so good pushing my MXR Slash octave fuzz (sub on only) through my Pork Loin, good stuff!!!

The 2X15D does not get very loud (well by doom standards). Not with the stock BWs. If I had the money I would try some Deltalites in it.

I am thinking about finding a cheap 4X10 to go with it for more volume. Maybe like a Peavey 4X10. I actually would kind of like a ported 4X10 because almost every ported 4X10 I have ever played has more lows than the 2X15D
