I like the neck pickup down one from full, and the bridge 2 clicks down from full. Can't wait to see what a BAII bridge will do on this thing, and maybe a mother of toilet seat pick guard to go with the inlays for a neat look.
That thing is gorgeous...the Jaguar really is the one Fender I like the looks of...but with two warwicks, I don't need one...key word, "need," haha. I also don't need a thunderbird pro. This website does not help my GAS & wallet!
It's a great "beater" for one with higher-end basses, and a great "modder' for one who is inclined to upgrade the bridge, tuners, pickups, etc. I am impressed with the sustain with the stock bridge, and am salivating at what a BAII will do.
Even better, Squiers (at least the VM and CV lines,IMO) are generally good enough to be a main bass, and don't really need to be modded if you're not into that.

It doesn't roll smoothly, it clicks with definite stopping points as you go along. That's the tone control. The volume control rolls smoothly. It's kind of odd but you get used to it.

Not sure about the complaints about the tuners. I play somewhat aggressively when I pluck the strings and it never seems to go out of tune. They seem to hold just fine.

I noticed that there are three wires coming from each pickup. Hot, Ground, ? What is the third wire for? I think I would replace the J pickup with a noiseless one. The P sounds great as is.
I'm thinking about getting one and throwing a P neck on it, just cuz

Squier really hit it out of the park with this baby, much like it did with the CV and VM series basses. Awesome value, solid craftsmanship, great looks, and good sound. All of them are great right out of the box (I'm especially partial to the CV 60s J & P, those are killer in nearly every way). Really fantastic buys in that price range.
Honestly, this bass doesn't need any mods, plays and feels perfect right out of the box. I was initially going to buy this bass and mod it, but once I got it and played it for a few days. It's very good, tuners, bridge, pups, and nice knobs too. The only mod I did was remove the tone knob clicker spring washer, didn't like that feature. i'm guessing that it's probably a ground wire coming from a brass shield plate under the pickup just like on a jazz or p bass.
I got a very early model - the first my local GC got and it weighs exactly 8 lbs / 0 ozs.
The neck is full-on Jazz sized, narrow.
The stock bridge may be part of the reason for the righteous ability of the p'ups - which are HOT - and I wouldn't kick a dog, sleeping or not.
The fret wires are definitely Medium Jumbo (Fender's nomenclature) and are exactly the same size as my Fender Deluxe Jazz and every other Fender/Squier I have.
What I DON'T have is a CV to compare them to - but the VMs and Affinities too, are the same.
The ONE big reason I didn't buy into any of the CVs was the tiny little fret wires, so I know this Jag has the larger wires as I wouldn't like it so much otherwise.
If there's any noise from the pickup(s), it's something odd since even at less than 6 inches from my RFI-exuding computer, mine is dead silent in all and any pot positions. I cannot induce any noise from mine by getting near to any radio-freq source or 60~ hum either.

I have been searching the Dimarzio DP126 set. Pretty cheap and people have some positive things to say. Anyone else have any input?

I'm considering BEAD on my Jaguar - thanks for recommending the strings. Did you have to alter the nut in any way or did they fit properly?
I played it yesterday and was blown away as well. Yet, I felt the same way. However, if they are small that would be a good thing because of my playing style. I may buy it just because I want a fretted bass but I can't justify spending a ton of cash because I would probably still play my fretless 90% of the time. The only drawback for me is that the angle of the Jaguar while sitting or standing wasn't nearly as comfortable as my Jazz. Not super divey but a little though.
