Not being an overly technically minded person I would be interested to find out what it is about the magnet mod that changes the output, I assume it changes the dc resistance ?

I believe that it simply increases the strength of the magnetic field which would increase the sensitivity of the pickup.
I'm not an EE by any stretch of the imagination, so I could be, and probably am, wrong.
Just made a little change to my jag. I had an extra blend pot laying around so I wired her up with a vbt configuration. I really really like it. I am still thinking I'll have to switch the pups out sooner or later, but with the mim jazz pup in the bridge it's definitely an improvement over the stock sound.

Hi Guys - Does anyone know if a Bronco neck would be a fit for this bass? I've been looking to get a maple neck for mine (personal preference) and I don't know much about the quality of the Rondo necks. There's a few sellers on Fleabay with SS maple necks, but I don't know if I can trust the quality. I'm a woodworker with the necessary tools, so the neck heel doesn't need to be a perfect fit (unless it's too small).
I eventually hope to do a custom build down the road, but as of now I'm not confident in trying to build a neck from scratch. I love this Jag and any ideas about where to find a neck I can work with to swap out would be appreciated. I have an 11x17" sheet of black pearl 3-ply pickguard to cut to shape and I may try to using the leftover for block inlay on the neck as well. Thanks again and I look forward to any suggestions.

Someone will answer with better info than me, but I'm pretty sure the bronco will fit. The sx necks will need modding to fit. Likewise a warmoth neck also would require some modding to fit.
The Bronco neck's heel is a little wider, it won't fit without modification. Additionally, the Bronco neck is about 1.5" shorter, so you'd also have to move the bridge back.
Looks great!! If I ever get another one, it will be silver. (And for sure the black pickguard screws with that black pearl!)

Thanks for the replies, fellas. I can trim the heel down without much problem, and I have a Gotoh 201 bridge for the mod, which has a 2 1/8" surface footprint, compared to the stock bridge - which measures just about 1 3/4" - so it can be done. The problem is that moving the bridge back 1.5" would place it further from the J PUP and closer to the edge than I'd like. I didn't realize the Bronco necks were shorter.
The SX seems like it might be a possibility, but the Warmoth and some others I've looked into are either way more than I want to spend or incompatible. There's a few on Ebay - one who sells fretted and inlayed with a squared paddle neck called Eden Guitars, and another called "Luthierman" who just sells partly shaped blanks.
I guess I'll have to make some inquiries/calls (where possible) and maybe I should post the question in the Hardware/Setup forum. Thanks again for the help, guys and if anyone else here can steer me the right way I would appreciate it.
I didn't tell you this, but the regular one from Stewmac fits just fine and doesn't have the big F on it. Also put one on my Godin Shifter and my Gretsch Junior Jet. I think they look real sweet. A much more "finished" look.You know, I hadn't considered an ashtray on mine, but now... Curse you GoLeafsGo!
The thing is, I've put a nice chunky Gotoh bridge on mine and now I've looked a bit closer it might just be a little too chunky for a standard ashtray...and it would mean covering up the nice shiny Gotoh and....I'm definitely trying to talk myself out of it.
I just got a second Jaguar SS. Found it used for a very reasonable price.
It looks brand new. And what a shocker - it weighs 6 lb. 1oz. Feels like a feather.

I got a CAR one in 2012, and it was my first bass. Went through about a dozen or so basses since then.
This new one is black.
I really like pretty much everything about the Jaguar SS - even the much despised J pickup.
Maybe I don't have a developed ear, but it sounds OK to me.
Too late now, but I'll put up a pic or two tomorrow.

Mine is a 2015 in CAR, and you're not alone in your overall impressions, mine was equally light, reasonable priced, and sounds great at nearly any setting (and I'm not generally a Jazz pup fan.) It's going to take all my willpower not to build up an embarrassing hoard of these basses when they come up so cheap.
My measurements are ballpark, I might be off by a significant amount. I'll try to get a proper number in the AM.
Pics or it didn't happen, right? Super deal on this used Jag SS, I think. Nothing was too far off when I set it up last night.

Thanks, Earl. I couldn't find those specs on the retail dealer sites I looked at. Maybe I can get them thru the Fender site or Squier - if they have one. I appreciate the help.
I posted in the Hardware/Setup forum and got a few recommendations, but I still want to find the best neck I can without doubling the price of the bass.
The difference turns out to be 3/4 an inch, but what I didn't notice was that the Bronco neck has 19 frets, and the Jag has 20. I think there's plenty of room to move the bridge back, and the old screw holes would be covered.
