I am looking to buy a second Jag SS and I really like the look of the sunburst model. It seems to only be available in the "starter pack" with an amp I have no need for. Except for the finish, are these sunburst models the same exact bass?Thanks...

That sounds better, but I think I've found one that I can work out with a bit of heel trimming and I'll be able to form the headstock and size the tuner holes to my preference, in the event I decide to upgrade them. Thanks again for helping me out with this.

No. The one in the pack is from the Affinity series. The regular Jaguar SS is from the Vintage Modified series.
Other than the painted/non-painted headstocks, I don't know what the other differences are though.
Not that i'd ever do it as it gets in the way of my right hand technique, but how does the Godin look with the ashtray?

Have gone through about 20 since I started with the first Jaguar SS I got in 2012.
The one I just got is one of the best sounding and playing of the bunch.
I just checked the serial # on the one I just got, and it was also made in 2012.
I changed out the pickups on the original one though, so I'm going by memory on the sound of it.
But this one sounds much better. I think it's still got the original pickups in it.
The super light weight is contributing to some severe neck dive though.
I'm going to have to pick up a wider, stickier strap for this one.

Yes...And Squier can market and label them in any way they choose, I am only concerned as to whether or not,headstock aside, this is the same exact bass as the painted models.Thanks

I don't know how you could find out unless you bought them both and dissected them.

Yeah, It's not that big a deal...My guess is, considering construction parameters at that price point, there may not be a lot of room for cost cutting on that model. Considering the stories I've heard about what folks find for wood under the painted finishes, the sunburst model may require a slight upgrade in wood matching. Just a thought...

The only listed difference I see is that the regular model uses maple for the neck material and the one in the pack uses rosewood.
Both lists agathis as the body material.
Not much to go on, but I suspect the differences between the two are very minimal.
If the one in the pack were available separately, I'd like to give it a try.

Fender does not call the sunburst Jaguar an Affinity series on its website (but it does call the other "pack" basses Affinity), and it doesn't have the "Affinity" decal on the headstock that the other pack basses have. I think GC named it Affinity because all the other pack basses are. I have a CAR SS Jag I bought 3 years ago, and the sunburst one that comes in the pack I bought last winter . Fit, finish and hardware appear to be identical, though my sunburst is about 1/2 pound lighter than the CAR. Both were made in Indonesia. Here's what the "pack" boxes look like:
Ya - it's a strange one, and you're probably right. All the other packs are targeted at beginners and labeled Affinity.
It seems like they must be mostly the same. Too much work to switch production for something of identical size and shape.
I own both and I believe they are pretty much the same. Here's what the sunburst looks like with a tort guard from twneagle (on eBay). Mine's got Hipshot Ultralights, LaBella 760FL flats, and a DiMarzio Area J PU at the bridge.
Nice looking bass! I thought they were probably the same as the painted finishes. Now the trick is to find one without having to buy the "starter pack"....

I couldn't talk anyone into breaking up the pack when I got mine. I was going to keep the Rumble 15 as a "bench test" amp, but a coworker's son got an AEG Little Martin guitar for Christmas, so I gave it to him. It's a nice little amp with aux input. The tuner works, but it's no Snark. The bag in the pack is not very good. The Fender Urban short scale bag is much, much better.
It's worth making a call to the Sam Ash web store, though. If they won't break up the pack, they'll probably give you a little extra discount just for calling. I bought a Breedlove AEB from them recently and they threw me an extra 10% off on my phone order.
The painted SS Jags are selling for $199 now, so the difference in price for the pack is a little bit less as well.
I played mine, stock except for some Chromes, at a rehearsal for a new 60s Garage project. Played with the P on full, J off, tone about a quarter up. Had some acoustic foam I put under the strings by the bridge as a mute, and ran it through my iPad using Jamup Pro and the Red bass amp sim with some extra gain. Trying to get that early-mid 60s garage vibe. The rest of the band were really impressed with the tone. The BL saying he thought it sounded like a Hofner.
And it's so easy to play. I was easily the least experienced player in the room, but i felt really relaxed and confident I could keep up. I used to get serious GAS while playing guitar, kept buying new ones, but since switching to bass, and this Jag, I can't think of any reason why I'd want another bass. Really, really happy with it.
