I guess I lucked out, too. I haven't noticed any flaws except the curve of the front volume pot, which someone else mentioned too, so that might be a statement about all of them.

Cosmetic wise, if I Did get one with some blems, I wouldn't care. I really wouldn't. I have always felt stuff like that just makes an instrument Unique. As long as it is physically sound, I have never cared about the cosmetics much. Especially at this price.

I dunno ... I got two lemons out of four tries -- not exactly a low count. Just sayin'.

Squier Jaguar SS Bass #20

Maybe not for you personally, but two out of four basses is not even close to being a reliable sample by any stretch of the imagination. It seems, though, you did find at least half to be good and one of those good enough to buy, That seems like good odds to me. Just sayin'. :D

Mike H, think back to your ststistics class, if you happened to have ever taken one, in college. A sample of 4 instruments is not enough to establish statistical consistency. While I would agree with you that a 50% lemon rate for you, personally, is very high, I would also remind you that a sample group of 4 is far-too-small to use known statistical methods with a 95% or higher degree of confidence.

True; nevertheless, if someone I trusted told me two out of the four of [x] bass he tried were lemons, it would give me some pause.

Only flaw at all on mine was a tiny bit of pitting on top tip of the control chrome plate. The neck did shift a bit because the neck plate screws were a bit loose. Easy fix. I bought the SS and the most expensive Jags on-line and the other Jag was flawless. I can't wait to get my new GK Fusion 550 to play my Basses through my new Avatar B212. I will post some Youtube playalongs.

I should probably for the sake of clarity that the issues I mentioned above were all cosmetic. Not a deal breaker for everyone, but I had the choice to be picky and im glad I was. After all it is still a $170 dollar bass and squier is well within thier rights to not put thier best out. Just a fair warning for those who buy online.
Has anyone done sweet mods yet? Im thinking of a few for mine but would like to see what others are doing too.

Your chances will be somewhere between 63 and 67 per cent.

Now *that* was funny. But, seriously, your chances are probably much lower than that. Apart from painting it, one idea would be to do a custom pick guard that included the control plate area. Personally, I like the chrome, but an all-in-one custom pick guard (a la a P-Bass) might do the trick for you.

You just missed all the 4th of july sales and would have saved $8.00 (5% off). I got mine for $144.50 (15% off) the day after a Memorial Day Sale was over at Spotlightmusicstore.com

Spotlight had 15% off through 7/10. I ordered a silver one from Music123 using Spotlight's coupon code and got an additional 10% of the difference... came out to $141 + change. It shipped today (waiting...).

You beat my $144.99, but I would've supported Spotlight Music just cuz they are a much smaller operation and a super friendly bunch of people. Besides, the only 2 things I ordered from 123 arrived damaged
and now Musicians Friend is charging tax in my state of Calif

Ok so I'm a 51 year old guitar player who just got his first bass. I knew I wanted a light easier to play bass. I love this thing! Definitely a guitar players bass. So... here's what happened when I got mine. Ordered it from Cascio Interstate Music $159 - best price I could find. Got it quick and packaged very well. The thing looks great! Neck was straight, no sharp edges on the frets, finish looks good.
Plugged it to my PA for a test drive wow that sounds pretty good lets test all the knobs woe wait a minute what's that the P pickup has about half the volume the J does oh wait it's back up oh wait it's gone completely. Called about warranty locally and made an appointment to go in the next day. Then thought you know I'm gonna open this thing up and see what I can see. I was a bit afraid of the "Warranty is void if you mess with it" kind of thing but I hate this local music store (there's another in town that I love but he's not a Fender Dealer) and I figured I can open it carefully and they'll never know. So turns out one of the screws for the P pickup was through the edge of one of the wires. Well that's pretty obvious.... Hanging on by a thread the wire just pulled apart didn't have to cut it. I stripped both sides slid 'em together dropped on some solder and shrink tubed it. Put it all back together and BAM all is good! I like the sound with full P and a little J added in. Like I said I'm not a bass player so I don't know what's right or what's not but I like the way it sounds and plays. I'm gonna take it church rehearsal (I'm actually playing drums) next week and let the real bass players tell me what they think. Mine weighs 6.8 lbs. Oh and on the color I prefer white or blond or natural. I didn't like the black or silver - so red was it and I actually really like it! :bassist: oh and one more thing... Number Please...

I'm fine with 8 lbs as long as most of it is the body. I just ordered a red one from gc using their $20 off coupon and should be here late next week I can take it to ups store or something and weigh it. If it's real lite I might be willing to trade.

it turns out i just ordered something else, but if i'm not happy with it, i may get back to you. very kind of you to offer this as a possibility either way. thanks!
