Well, your original post mentioned a Road Runner Short Scale gig bag. I went over to GC and couldn't find a bag called that. Also, the electric guitar bag was far too small, and the bass bag is too big. Want to post a link?

Been lurking on this site for a couple years, finally joined today. Bought my first retail bass (from a store, as opposed to Craigslist) and it's a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special SS. The all black model. So, can I join the club?
I'm very happy with my purchase so far. I didn't care for the strings it came with so I just put on some Rotosound RS77S Monel Flatwound Short-Scale strings (40 50 75 90) and I like them much, much better.
The bass feels and sounds better with them, personal opinion, of course.
Anyway, just wanted to chime in and say 'hi' to ya'll.

Well if you guys don't experience the neck dive or it doesn't bother you, great. My first bass was not a fender and it was very well balanced and also had really nice tuners, so call me spoiled in those regards, but I'll be killing both of these birds with a set of ultralites stat. Other than that its a great bass especially for the money and has the tightest neck pocket of any of my instruments. Couple of small finish flaws but I could care less.
Does anyone know what strings these stock ones are?

Strings for short scales Are different. The are sized differently so that you are wrapping just the thin part of the string around the posts.
When you take the plunge, look at one of the DAddario short scale sets. You won't go wrong.

Stock strings are fender nps. Really bright. Rotosound makes 77s and 88s in short scale if ya want flats. You need short strings to be able to wrap them around the posts. You could cut long strings but you'd be wrapping the fat part around the posts.... May or may not work.
Changing tuners is pretty easy depending what you change them to. Taking them off is four little screws on the back of the headstock. If what you replace them with has the same screw hole pattern, you're set. Otherwise predrill new holes and fill the old ones if you want. Don't drill through the headstock.

Ya. +1. This.
In other words, drill not even deep enough for the entire shaft of the screw; it's just going to be a pilot hole it ensure that the screw goes in straight and not crooked; below that, the screw will dig itself into the wood. If you don't have a particular steady hand or are nervous about doing this, finding a friend or a pro with a drill press is hardly a bad idea.
Drilling holes! Wouldn't want to do that to my new baby.

Piggybacking on this ? - Anyone know what gauge they are and would you want or go bigger or smaller? If I remember right I saw SS sets with a 105 E string I also saw 90. It seems to me the smaller gauge would make sense especially on a Short scale - but I'm not a bass player so enlighten me please.
From the Squier site spec sheet on the Jag SS:
Strings: NPS (.045, .065, .085, .105)
Personally, I've never really messed around with string gauges so I'll just stick with the gauge they supply.

EDIT: Just compared the two by sight and they do look very similar. I think the ones on the Jag feel slightly thinner when playing though. Not by much mind. Anyone else care to chime in?
The stock strings on my jag definitely feel more *flexible* than the DR ss strings I have on my 'stang. I'm kinda liking them!
Anyway, they feel quite different but do look about the same.
No calipers here, so I'm going on eyeballing them as well.

After using the Jag for a bit (and having some fun with the pick guard), I've decided it's a keeper! I'd love to join the club!

BeauZooka did a way better job than I did. I may re-do mine if I ever make the time. In a nutshell, it's just 3 different coordinating/contrasting colors of fingernail polish swirled together. My advice: do this inside where the polish will not dry too fast, and practice on a pie plate or something before you commit to altering your pick guard.
I swirled the colors with a toothpick and by tilting the guard a little before the polish was dry. And give it a few days to really, truly dry before putting it back on the bass.

Looks great. Maybe I'll do that to the control plate sometime. I'm not a fan of chrome plates.
