I see used Duncan sjb3's on the local cl regularly for $30. I have one and it's not bad but I prefer the jb102. I dunno if anyone can order them, but the pb101 comes up used a lot here and on eBay from people ripping them out of vm p's. For me "cost effective" pretty much means used.

Now in classifieds "parts drawer..." - at the bottom:
Genuine Fender MIM J-Bass Bridge pickup $16

Would this mean that a J pickup that measures 6.5K would be a good match, or are there othe criteria to consider?

This is assuming that the P pickup will remain stock.

Yes thats a good guide. A hotter than average output would help too. Humcancelling like a dimarzio model J would be even better.

Ok folks, after a false start, here's my take on a winning bag:

McFly, there will be very little left over when this bass is in that bag. It's a good pick.

I still don't get how your bass fit and mine didn't. These basses are CNC'd. The difference in numbers we are citing should be in our own measurement errors, not the actual length of the bass. If anything, I think the bags might be differing by the half inch necessary to get it in there.

You gotta really be shoving that bass into that bag. It's too tight.

Plus, that bag really Did smell nasty. My wife got upset - it stunk up the living room.

Lol. Not true about tightness. I wouldn't use it if there was zero tolerence. Also. The smell is pretty non existent now.

Well, I'm paying mine forward. MF refunded my money. I don't need to send it back since it will cost more than the value of the bag. So, I posted on FB looking for a local musician who needed a guitar gig bag, and it got taken quickly.

Why would they refund your money? It wasn't defective. Did you use the 'Smell Card? (lol. like that Seinfeld BO episode). If mine wouldn't have fitted I would've never even thought to ask them to. I did get a free MF HSC for Bass cuz the lid was a bit warped and they sent me another free if charge.

Would this type of bridge pickup fit in the J rout on the Jaguar SS? I understand that the bridge pickup is slightly larger in a standard jazz set. Is that the same size as on the Jag SS?

Also, how would a single stacked J work with a P as on the Jag SS?

Yes it fits. I put a dimarzio ultra jazz bridge pickup in mine.

A stacked or dual coil J matches the P pickup better usually because the output is more likely to be hotter (like the P pickup) and you get no hum when the J vol is up.
