thanks! great bass, i lowered the p-bass pickup & raised the jazz pickup, sounds good now with both on full volume. added a set of sunbeams short scale. could use some minor adjustments but plays great alreday. ended up getting it for $145 from musicians friend w/ discounts. what a deal.

yeah, no problem. i play with a medium action so theres no buzz at all.

Here's mine. Strung with some La Bella flats. Used some old strings to file back the plastic nut grooves to allow the new gauge to fit. Adjusted the truss rod, lowered the action to a whisper off the fretboard and no buzz, even when digging in. Wow! Such a pleasure to play.
I want to buy another because it sounds amazing with the Sunbeams too! Best value bass ever!

How do you know when you've gone deep and wide enough and when to stop? I'd be terrified of ruining my nut. And man, that sounded baaaaad.

I'll be using your technique soon. After hearing of their - relatively new - existence, I ordered a set of DD Tapewounds. I imagine a little filing will be in order.

I put a Shaller 3d-4 on mine, added some sustain but didn't change the tone.

Not necessarily ... it depends how high or shallow the nut is. The string could be almost all below the nut ... The goal is to have the right depth to suit your action. Depth - you want the strings to be at a height that you want it to be at the first fret. Width - you want the string to fit securely within the bottom of the slot.

Instead of a new bridge I put on the ashtray cover because the saddle posts were sticking up too high after lowering the action.

Per the reviews, and the price, I have one on order and will report. Main reason I looked to upgrade the bridge is the stock one was having problems holding the intonation. This one seems to be able to lock the adjustments, seemed reasonable price, and I think looks cooler too that the stock bridge.
