Here's a question for my fellow Squier brethren.
What color pickguard for a cherry (like furniture) stained bass? White, pearly white, black, something else?
I've been leaning towards a pearly white with chrome bridge and pickup covers, I think it would look pretty classy (which is my goal) but i'm afraid it might turn out looking like something Little Richard or Liberace would play. lol

Yeah I love the pearl look myself. I've already got the Jag with the black pickguard so I don't want to go that route. I think pearl will be the choice...I wanna build this thing so bad! Can't wait to show you guys.
I've purchased stock pickguards from www.guitarfetish.com. I've also purchased a sheet of tortoise from them to create the pickguard on my modified Squier Precision Special 5 (photos in the Tricked Out Squier Club thread).

Far less high tech than that... I cut the rough shape with a band saw (at work), cut the rough opening for the pickup with a jig saw, filed it to shape with a hand file and did the bevel with the same file (smoothing it out with sandpaper).
When I made my first pickguard many years ago, I probably cut it out with a Coping saw.
I might just buy the one I want, lol, i've got all the tools, not the patience.

The problem with router or Dremel chamfering bits is that they are either 45º or 20º, although I've seen a few 12.5º bits.
Those are going the wrong way to display the layers in a PG and you actually should get near to 60º for them to look good.
That's the problem: I haven't found any 60º router OR Dremel bits yet. They may be out there but every time I go to a tool store - not Lowes or Home Despots, they just either look at me like I'm daft or tell me they've never had a request for such a thing.
I use a small spoke shave and some single-cut flat files to get what I need.
Just a reminder of how good Squier Basses are. I have 6 Basses and my $200 Squier Affinity Jazz 5 in Tobbacco Sunburst plays like something 5 or 6 times its cost. Great neck, just fitted EB Slinky's with .130" B string and great sound, punch and tone. True J bass growl and the B thinks it is on a Warwick.
It pleases me more than anything I have tried at 3 times the price and more.
