Just tried a Precision fiver with what appeared to be jazz pickups in it. Pretty bass. Metallic green with white pickguard. Shop wants $299.00 for it.

Sales guy said, "We've had that one forever." I liked the look and feel (neck was a bit like my Tribute L2000,) but I just couldn't get much tone variation out of it. B was really floppy too.

Too bad, I really wanted to like it because I like the color better than the Affinity colors, but I think the Deluxe Jazz Five is still the front runner for me.

Back to the big question, white or sunburst?

Ended up using the barrels out of the SX bridge on the Gotoh. Smaller in diameter and I got the action where I wanted it. Simple swap.

Cool deal. I can lower mine until they almost touch the frets. I guess there is a bit-o-difference in necks and stuff.

..and there it was..one of those godamn aesthetically apealling Squier VMJ's:eek: after a little noodling...then parting with the right amount of readies...she is mine....:smug::smug::D. with my wifes blessing!!:hyper:

Nope...that was it...the nut is available pre-slotted on ebay by Tusq but required taking it down in height and width and that was pretty easy...bridge had three new holes to drill (two existing holes already worked), drilled a new hole for the additional tuner and voila! The most nerve racking part was drilling the additional headstock hole. I was worried about chipping and cracking. But I taped both sides and clamped used scrap wood blockes both sides for the drilling.

Tight string spacing mind you but I like it (15mm string to string on center at the bridge, 3 1/2" bridge overall)...stock pickups and preamp work great which I may upgrade at a later date.

Oh and I am not the first to do this with this model bass...at least two other TBers before me did the same...

Wow...All of these basses are amazing!!!

Bassplayer_479 here, the starter of this thread.It's been quite a few months since I have been able to be truly active on TalkBass, but that's all slowly changing. My apologies, but making updated membership list is going to be impossible. Again, I am truly sorry. Perhaps we are going to need to adopt a "Squier Owners Club Member in Good Standing" phrase, a la SX Club. More on that later. In the mean time, great job on modding these Squiers, keep the pics coming, and keep the low end steady!
