Squier Owners Club

Well I'm now officially a part of the club. After being cured of a bad case of "bass snobbery" (thanks mostly in part to members here on TB... thank you all!) I finally got my Squier Deluxe Jazz V!

I had fallen in love with this bass when I played one in the store, so when I saw one available with Bartolini Jazz pickups and an Aguilar OBP-3, I couldn't resist. Now I couldn't be happier! Not only that, but it's been wired to ad a passive/active switch on it, and the active tone is amazing as well! I'm completely in love and have a new main bass.

That is true, for the most part. However there are a few different profiles Fender has used over the years and some I find downright playable.

I certainly could live with the CV P bass, but I am finding I like a chunky neck as much as any. It is funny, I like the feel of a good jazz neck and the slightly chunkier SX is great, but then so is the CV and VM. But the P neck on my SX felt so good, I almost kept it on there. And I prefer the chunkier Rickenbacker neck profile as well.

I picked up the CV 50's P bass and thought it felt extremely chunky, though I've heard people say on here that they really like it. The 60's P to me though felt much more comfortable than the MIA or MIM Fenders. Much thinner front to back. But the 50's P was thick front to back, which I'm not a fan of.

Yes indeed! It's truly an amazing P bass for sure. I couldn't be happier. If I was going to have a custom P bass made, I would give this to the Luthier and say..........JUST LIKE THIS!! :bassist:

After about 2 years out of the club, I'm back in!

On friday I picked up this '92-'93 MIJ Squire Silver series Precision. (better pics someday...)

I got it with the intention of flipping it, but after setting it up and playing it a bit, I realized I had to keep it. The original guard is a 1-ply white so I slapped on the BWB that you see here. Asside from a couple of dings (but virtually no surface scratching), this thing is ridiculously clean for a 16 year old instrument!

My last Squire was a MIJ bullet. It had a really nice chunky neck, but this bass sounds better (I like this pickup alot) and plays as well. I would have liked a trans-sunburst on ash (rather than an opaque on basswood) but other than that, I can't find anything to dislike about this bass.

I took it to GC to A/B it, and while I didn't feel it was the equal of the USA or Road-worn P's, it didn't lack much, and seemed to be a better playing/sounding instrument than the VM Squire's or MIM Standards.

Just picked this up on Saturday used and in excellent condition...does anyone know if the pickup mod works? I read a thread here on Talkbass that stated I can lower the "hidden" polepieces so this specific Squier pickup is not so hot (it was hotter than my active bass at first until I lowered the whole thing!!) But I've also read elsewhere that on the originals from the 70s some people actually removed the hidden polepieces entirely, to give the pickup a bit more articulation without losing the oceans of bottom. I like how this bass plays and sounds when I'm jamming along to Motown but I also want to use it in a few other settings if possible.

if i remember correctly when i weighed mine it came in at just above 8 pounds

I need to grab my digital scale from the boat but I'm guessing a little over 9lbs. I'll post the exact weight in a little while :)

EDIT: 9.72lbs She's no lightweight.
