Squier "Perfect Fit Replacement Parts" Mega thread

i'm confused, will a hipshot d tuner fit a VMJ? and ive tried 3 pickguards, none fit perfectly.

I am sure there is a D tuner that will work, but I am not the guy to ask on that.

I can comment on the pick guard. I NEVER expect a replacement pick guard to fit exactly. This is especially true when crossing brands. You know Fender 62RI on a Squier CV Jazz, or an SX on an SX or a Squier Cv on an SX.

I have never replaced a pick guard without some slight tweaking. I have done some swaps on my stuff, but also did a few in the 80's and early 90's for friends and a band I was involved with (behind the scenes) I also did some custom stuff.

Even a Fender 62RI pick guard on a Fender 62RI bass needed a little work in the neck pocket and where it buts the control plate. Almost perfect, but not quite.

Man,I could just live in this thread! Some sweet Squiers.

I`ll have to come back down the road for my official number as I`m only in the planning stages of my build up.

Buddy got me back into bass by purchasing a used 2002 Squier Affinity P-Bass (Anniversary Model) on ebay...and made it my B-Day gift. Kind of an understood thing between us that I would "hot rod" this bass. For Xmas he gave me a new Fender Original Precision Bass Pickup (what I wanted to upgrade to).

Planned Mods:
-internal cavity shielding job and complete re-soldering/rewiring

-higher quality input jack and pots

-Strap-Loks or Ernie Ball Locks

-have picguard custom ordered (send in tracing)

-Fender Original pups installed

-picguard installed

Phase Two Mods:
-replace stock bridge with a Fender (or newer Squier) P bridge

-replace stock tuning heads with Fender open-backed heads

-Fender P chrome bridge cover w/matching chrome screws

-Fender P thumbrest

-brass nut

I absolutely LOVE this bass! Looks like I lucked out and got a keeper because it feels as tight and solid as the`98 Fender MIA P-standard I had years ago. My Affinity`s neck is actually nicer though. As this will most likely be the only bass I will have for a few years I want her to be as reliable, sturdy and electronically sound as is possible. That`s why these upgrades will be well worth the $ in my book. :) No pickup cover in her future since I play @ the pup.

Best company to order custom picguards from? Going for the vintage look so I want a 3-ply in something like CREAM,PARCHMENT or IVORY.So the pg looks like it`s faded over time.

Also putting money, time and effort into my bass is one way I can show my buddy just how much his gift has meant to me.Corny,I know.

Looking forwards to piccys!

Just curious as to why would one want to put a brass nut on a bass?
I had a brass nut installed on my Strat back in the 80's, and played it that way for many years until I recently changed it back to bone.
The sound was somewhat brighter when playing open strings, but beyond that it didn't enhance sustain or brightness on fretted notes.

Thanks,Charles Obscure. To be honest I`m not sure why (the brass nut)other than I was under the impression that a brass nut was stronger or "better" somehow. *embarressed*

Just leave well enough alone and stick with the classic bone nut then? I appreciate your input, sir. :)

It helps with the resonance of the open strings. It also improves sustain and (depending on the player) consistency between open notes and fretted. I will also be using a brass bridge (hipshot)
