Here is my upgrade VM fretless pbass.
Refinished the fretless Ebonol finger board with CA clue. The fretline buzz are totally disappear.
Swap the stock pup with Tony Franklin P pup.
A nice vintage cream pearl pick guard and tug bar.

What do you think of VM 77 Jazz bass pickups? They use Fender designed ones instead Duncans. I was surprised to see they made it with cloth wire covers just like vintage ones. However not very happy with the tone and output, especially with the bridge pickup.
I think replacing the bridge with a Fender Hi Mass bridge with brass saddles (they told me it resonates better than zinc ones) might improve sustain and replacing the cheap pots and cap might also help (some people written that stock Squier pots are not really 250 they are have lower values and much darker sound)
Cant decide which pickup to use instead of stock ones if i have to replace them. I want to play 70s funk and blues mostly. My choices limited to:
Fender CS 60s jazz bass pickups
SD Antiquity II jazz bass pickups
Delano JC 4 AL jazz bass pickups
SD Quarterpound jazz bass pickups
Any advices?

Sounds nice, however they dont sell them here and most of the online shopping websites dont ship to Turkey. Thats why i am quite limited to the pickups i had listed above
With the money to spend to the modifications i can almost get a used MIM Standard Jazz Bass here and thats another story. 1 USD = almost 6 Turkish Liras, so every upgrade/component is very expensive here.

The Antiquity IIs would be a better choice for funk and blues than the QPs. If you were doing rock, punk or metal, I'd suggest the QPs.
I went with the SD Antiquity IIs, its a big improvement, especially to the bridge pick up.
There is some lack of sustain, hi mass bridge will arrive to the store 1,5 months later and then i will try it with the new bridge. Hi mass bridge worked perfectly well with my MIM P bass.
I used an orange drop .022 capacitor by the way, instead of .047 one. 70s era jazz basses used .022 thats why i wanted to replace the cap.
As far as i know cap doesnt have an effect on the tone unless tone pot is rolled all the way down. Thats also what the luthier told me. However maybe thats just me, but the tone seems brighter now. I might put orange drop .047 cap. Its definately brighter when the tone is all the way down naturally.

Yea trial and error indeed. I found .022 is way too bright than i expected, i will stay with .047 cap.
VM 77 Jazz Bass is really good for its price, the neck is comfortable and no significant fret buzz with lower action so far. After very necessary pickup replacement now it become something else. However the one i bought lacks on sustain (there werent may Squier basses to try in guitar shops, there were only 2 of them in entire city
Sustain is low because of the body wood maybe? Anyway i am planning to compansate this with a hi mass bridge as i mentioned before and open any other advices regarding this point. Got no other complaints Visit my local GC couple day ago, try the VM70, VM77 and new CV60J.
All of them has pretty similar playing feel and tone. Both VM J sound little punchy and growl than new CV60J which sound little dry to my ears.
And I Check out with VM77 which this one has no fret job issue, better clear and focus sound from 1st fret to 4th fret on E string, best neck align with pickup and bridge. Just the weight are close to 9lbs compare to lighter CV60J.
The Daphne Blue colour on CV60J look different than the one on Squier Deluxe strat , the CV are darker and too blue , meanwhile the dlx strat has lighter with slightly yellowish tint make it look so sexy.
I put the black VM77, sunburst VM77 , Candy VM70 , white VM70 side by side with CV60J. Supprise the CV60J look least classy and cheaper bass.

Here is the VM77 jazz bass with Fender Vintage Bridge and DIY A and D magnet pole piece raise.
I am licking the stock pup tone along with TiJF344 , so I can hold my Fralin J pup order at the moment.
Suprice me that the stock solo pup hum are less than my previous CV60J and CV50P.

Do you like it more? What kind of a change did it make when you raised the A and D poles? I’m curious if it just balances the volume of those strings with E and G or, does it change the timbre and tone also?
